Hussein, who had been working as the assistant to the surveyor, temporarily reported for duty as a pickman, then was assigned to J2. Safwan informed us that today would be his last day of work. Pickmen requested that they be able to put water on accumulation k103f64 to soften it for easier picking. gB, faB, and jW agreed that whatever advantage accrued would be lost because the wet soil would clog the elevator and force all dirt to be passed up by buckets rather than removed by elevator. -sf jW worked for one hour at home preparing the unit global record. k 103 dy Continued the removal of laminations, f56. We expect to reach a cement-like surface similar to k101f43 in the early pickruns today. This may help to explain the compaction of f56 which we are seeing. As expected, laminations blended into harder, grayer accumulation, designated f63. Took relays. k 104 dy gM and Zuzan are continuing to prepare the body, a1, for a registered photograph, v24, which will be used as a template for a Freehand drawing of the burial. Designated the ashy material in the NW corner as a lens, f64. Took relays and photographed f64 in relationship to the burial a1, v25. Noticed cracks developing in the E and N baulks. The N baulk looks like it might release several liters of accumulation and packing to the surface below if not excavated properly. f 63 H99 This accumulation shares similarities with, but is not identical to, the ashy layer k43 in k101. For example, f43 is very gray and has small charcoal inclusions, while f63 seems to be mixed with more loess, which gives it a grayish brown hue. Charcoal inclusions have yet to be found in f63.
