| Religion | 2022-10-30 | mKB | The sherd seems to have been worked so as to be level at the upper edges, see this image from one side, and this one from the other. I assume that this may have been in function of the use to be made in the burial: the sherd was to serve as a pillow for the head of the deceased, so that it may not be in contact with the dirt. The template of the context shows this well. This suggests a special level of care for the deceased. -- It is interesting that there should be no complete ceramic vessel in this burial, even though there were two silver rings (i33 and i36) and one bronze bucket (i29). The unusual shape of the sherd i34 may perhaps be reminiscent of the shape of the bucket. [Input: ZGy22mKB.J] |
