Throughout, I make a strong case for preservation having to be closely integrated within the archaeological process. And yet here I present it as a separate track, rather than under the heading of methodology. The reason is that this topic straddles the two moments of excavation on the one hand and publication on the other. In the section on PRINCIPLES I present those aspects of preservation that are especially significant for an overall evaluation of the approach. |
