Here we found brick, large stones as well as a flatly laid out large stone. Most of f302 has loose black soil which frequently makes incursions into a hardpacked layer. Today's excavation began with continued removal of more f302 Westward. q 705.1 nr The clay lump which appears to be a sealing was recovered by the youth Ma'soom, who brought it back from the pile of excavated earth, after dumping his basketfull. It was found in the dirt that had been dumped at this time. Both his explanation and that of the man taking care of the dump mound made it clear that it was from the accumulation f302 removed in the first digging this morning. They showed me the freshly dumped dirt from which the lump had been picked up. k 30 ds The dimensions of the excavated area (i.e., excluding the protective baulk to be removed periodically) are as follows: E 480cm, S 400cm, W 320cm, N 350cm. f 301 tc co f302 tc co f304 f 302 tc co f303 tc co f305 f 304 tc ab f305 tc ab f303 nr The accumulation was defined for a strip 1.5 m NS from the W limit of the excavation boundary (i.e., excluding the W baulk). It was cut to ca. 30cm depth at the E and leveled to the W. ds loose granular brown soil which has stones and is penetrated by roots etc. f 305 tc ab f303 tc ab f306 -dy Excavation in both loci proceeded as planned for today. It k22, f215 was removed with the handpick. Only the NE half of the N strip remains of this feature. Excavation in k30 continued this am by using the large pick. Upon discovery of f306, the area around it was excavated using the handpick. Today's work exposed what appear to be a brick wall and a stone platform abutting it, within this locus.
