We removed the pit f325 this morning and began digging the locus. We soon saw the outline of an area of slightly grayer earth in the SW corner, which intersects both the mud wall and the S baulk. The earth within it is slightly harder than the rest of the ^ac. Also, in the SE corner, there is evidence of a red layer, a black layer, and another red layer in a ring, the outer two of which are about 20cm wide. It is possible that these are vertical layers, cut almost horizontally by us. Finally, there are more strange vertical fissures in the N half of the locus, much small than the main one of f321. q 600 nt This lot contained part of a Ninevite V small vessal, along with q-lots 385 and 384. q 585 nt This lot contained part of a Ninevite V small vessal, along with q-lots 384 and 400. q 584 nt This lot contained part of a Ninevite V small vessal, along with q-lots 385 and 400. f 329 ds At first, we thought that this was separate from f316 because we found very little pottery for a brief period, but it turned out to equal f316. Since I did not observe it, I cannot explain this situation. =l f316
