It was first observed as the eastern boundary of f387, the ash layer, and was distinctly different: whereas f387 was grey and crumbly, f395 was a smooth light brown. In its lower levels, it changed considerably. It acquired dark, thick ashy patches, hard but grainy red parts, dirty brown parts like f384, and the soft fissure fill along the edge. While at points, their boundaries were very clear, at others they merged indistinguishably. Because it was so confused, we dug it as one feature, since we could not differentiate it clearly. q 968 p 371 27 r688 136N 248W m2937 65 150 4 continuation of q966 969 pb 330 26 r698 50S 67SE 8196 20 .ri ms 970 p 336 26 50S 67SE 8176 15 971 pbi 326 26 r694 27E 23SE 8240 31 55 removal of mud ledge 972 p 372 27 r689 144N 103E m2937 74 151 7 973 pb 326 26 r695 27E 235E 8234 80 25 removal of mud ledge .ri jl 974 pib 338 26 r699 50S 67SE 8159 30 975 p 344 26 r700 50S 67SE 8129 0 22 976 pb 372 27 r690 136N 238W m2937 61 145 laminations in south-west part 977 pb 345 26 r701 50S 67SE 8107 0 17 978 p 395 27 r691 25E 140S m2909 10 119 10 979 p 326 26 r696 27E 23SE 8264 135 31 removal of mud ledge .ri dc 980 p 395 27 r693 25E 140S m2909 20 139 .ri ms 981 pi 326 26 27E 23SE 8227 129 982 b 367 27 r697 63S 10W 8227 129 v 211 W gf372 gk27 .ri dc 212 E gf392 gk27 ga32 212a c E gf395 gk27 ga32 213 S k27 214 OV k27
