.bk A15 .fl N820jw.j .fd daily journal for N820 .ri jw .rd N820 .ed N820 .ei jw -wk Muhammad Hair continued out sick. Adil excused by gb due to an eye injury. Faraj reported from A14. Ahmed temporarily detailed from J1 East to assist in looking for more door seal fragments. -dy today we finished excavating the room a36 in k14, having reached a serviceable floor. In k5, we tentatively finished excavating the room a39 in k5, having located the south, east and west boundary walls as well as a stone threshold on the north side. No floor surface was reached, but we stopped at the elevation where last of the cache of jars a34 was located. In k4, we excavated around and within the space enclosed by the walls of platform f214. There was no discernable west wall, the north wall appears to be made of mudbrick, the south wall appears to be made of stone founded on dirt, and the east wall apperars to be made of stone, founded on large stones. k 3 dy we continued to explore for the south face of a wall defined on the north side by three large stones in the NW corner and by a thin line of plaster in the NE corner. In k2 we continued to remove the platform below the wall fall f439. We recovered fragments of at least two door seals with impressions along the north edge of the locus. -sg ms and jw met several times during the day to adjust plans for the last days of excavation. gb proposed that we work three more days; Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The work during the added time will focus on clarifying the relationship among the various Phases represented by the architecture. The walls and possible associated floors in k2, k3, k4, k93 and k94 will receive the most attention. We must attempt to define the space confined on the east by wall f439 and on the south by wall f537 (which we originally believed to be a line of stones). In k3, we need to determine if the wall f544, whose SW corner is defined by baked bricks, stones and sherds is deeply founded and therefore is a candidate for inculusion into the Phase 2 wall system. In k4 we must remove platform f214 and explore the material below it. In k93 and k94 there are a number of large stones whose function is unclear. ms and jw will provide a list of workmen needed to perform these tasks. k 5 dy Mizar and Yestafad finished removing all of the vessels that comprise a34. In doing so, they reached a flat, relatively clean surface that could mark the stopping point for excavating here this season. As they followed this surface to the north, they reached an E-W line of stones f542, which appear to be either the foundation for a wall that has been destroyed or a threshold for a stairway that descends to the south. k 4 dy Ramadan explored the extent of the stone and sherd pavement f545, which underlays another such pavement f490. Stef and Yestafad removed the accumulation f533 enclosed by the three extant walls of platform f214. There is some indication that the north wall, made of mudbrick, is founded on a surface of baked brick. Clarification will be a key goal of the work here tomorrow. fab noticed that a small block of accumulation in lower NW corner of f214 contained material similar to the Phase 5 kiln waste seen in k14 and k13. We will investigate as the excavation of that part of the platform proceeds tomorrow. k 3 dy Sultan spent the day exploring the extent of wall f537, which runs along the north edge of the locus. Having identified a possible floor surface f543 which was to the north of the north face of wall f537, he then began searching for the south face. After removing a pit a40, a large stone was located at the bottom which could mark that face. Clarification will be a key goal of the work here tomorrow. k 2 dy Khalid and Ibrahim continued to remove accumulation f532 which was sealed and contained by the wall fall f489. Close to the west face of wall f528 they found fragments of two relatively large door seals, at least one of which had a seal impression. mkb will analyze them and report the significance, if any. Later, they were joined by Ahmed who was detailed from unit J1 to assist. k 14 dy Muhammad Kher began to excavate accumulation f539 from west to east, looking to see if the wall corner f544 was deeply founded. f 538 df a ;ds f 539 df a ;ds f 540 df fi ds fill of pit in the middle of k93.
