We removed approximately 20 centimeters from the entire locus and found several brick faces and sherds lying flat. The topsoil q-lot was closed and a new feature f5 assigned the accumulation above the bricks and sherds. k 13 dy Opened this locus today and started by removing the topsoil level. Approximately 15 centimeters was removed by the end of the day with a hard compact surface emerging in the southwest corner. Tomorrow we will follow this level to define the boundaries. f 5 ds Accumulation in the western third of the locus, above emerging brick faces and possible floor This feature was assigned abandonment accumulation due to the eroded brick surfaces that are beginning to emerge. The matrix is more compact than the topsoil with fragments of bricky material present. f 1 ds This feature is a modern berm that was created several years ago to divert water from entering A18. It comprises of mounded soil forming a barrier crossing both k2 and k3. The height of the berm is approximately 15-20 cm. In k3 the berm is labeled as f2. dy We removed this feature today using shovels after the area was photographed and a rely taken. f 2 ds This feature is a modern berm that was created several years ago to divert water from entering A18. This material is darker in color, softer, and contrasts sharply with the compact brick material located to the west (f5). This feature is presumably accumulation that built-up naturally. dy Assigned this feature today but did not excavate it, tomorrow we plan to excavate this feature with the big pick. f 4 ds Topsoil layer in k13, contains roots. Only rims and bases were collected in the pottery q-lot which were looked at by mKB and discarded. dy Removed this feature today f 3 ds Topsoil layer in k12, contains roots.
