.bk A20 .fl S714lr.j .fd daily journal .ed S714 .ei lR .rd S714 .ri lR k 12 dy Photographed entire locus this morning to show the relationship between f6, f5 and emerging stones; Refer to v3, v3a. A close-up of the sherd lense and brick face was also taken. f 11 ds stone installation located in the NW corner of the locus comprised of six small to medium sized stones in a line running north to south with a gap between and another line of stones. dy Yesterday several stones surfaced after removing the topsoil layer in k12. These stones are clustered together in the NW corner of the locus. We photographed the entire locus today but expect to delineate these stones further tomorrow to see if the stones continue to go down. The stones are sitting in f5. tc si f5 f 6 dy removed 5 cms from the NE corner of the locus to level the area. This feature is a mixture of topsoil and abandonment accumulation below showing small fragments of charcoal, bricks, and exhibits both hard and soft spots throughout the locus. Similar features were noted throughout all the loci in A20. One question is the relationship between the bricky material to the west, f5 where the stones are emerging and this accumulation. Tomorrow we plan to remove 10 cms to see if f5 is underneath. In k13 (loci immediately to the east), a compact surface is present but at a much deeper elevation. k 13 dy Yesterday at the end of the day f7 emerged in the southwest corner. Today we continued to follow this surface and found that it throughout the entire locus. We therefore completely removed the topsoil layer leaving the bricky compact surface, f7, exposed. f 7 dy fully exposed this feature today resulting in no clear brick surfaces however the matrix is compact like brick found 38-40 cms below the Tell surface; similar to melted brick layers seen in A16 and A18. k 3 dy opened this locus today and began to remove the topsoil layer in the western half of the locus, f9. The matrix is softer here than in any locus and by the end of the day the soil became softer with a grayish coloring. We stopped excavating at this level, assuming we are below topsoil, and will continue to remove the rest of the topsoil in the other half of the locus. f 9 ds topsoil layer with roots present at the top mixed with a soft matrix. f 8 dy removed this feature today f 10 ds soft accumulation mixed with bricky material and charcoal found underneath the topsoil. This feature is similar to f5 in k12 but not as hard as the compact surface f7 in k13. Given the charcoal and bricky fragments, this feature is defined as abandonment accumulation. f 12 ds Large stone located in the NW corner of k2. The stone is rectangular in shape and surfaced below the topsoil sitting in f10 abandonment accumulation. The stone is situated in the western baulk of k2, partly in the section, isolated, and oriented west to east. Smaller stones were found in k12, f11 associated with the same stratum. k 2 dy finished excavating the topsoil and found a change in the soil matrix, similar to what we found in k12. A more compact surface emerged mixed with soft soil, bricky material, and charcoal fragments, first emerging in the southern half of the locus. A new feature number was assigned and 10 cm removed from the entire locus.
