.bk A20 .fl S718lr.j .fd journal .rd S717 .ri lR .ed S718 .ei lR k 2 dy this morning the northwest corner was excavated down 5cms. The area showed several brick faces but resulted in only broken and eroded bricks mixed with the surrounding matrix so was removed we then continued to excavate f14, which remains concentrated in western half of the locus. Approximately 10 cms was removed, defining f15 better, a medium sized stone with no other features associated with it. While excavating the soil began to shift from a lighter bricky material to softer and ashier. A new feature was assigned, f22. f 14 dy removed 10cms today with the matrix shifting from light gray and compact to softer dark gray with patches of black. In the western corner, harder compact material surfaced with pebble and sherd inclusions. It appears similar in compaction as f7 (the compact layer in all four loci) but with too many inclusions. A new feature was assigned, f22. f 11 dy excavated 5cms around the stones and to the south with no difference in matrix from the material around the stones. This feature was drawn today by eE and left pedastooled. f 5 dy continued to remove 5cms from this feature today and came down on more sherds laying flat. The area was cleaned and drawn by eE. The area to the east of the sherds was excavated further, 10cms. No difference in matrix was noted. k 15 dy opened this locus today, started by removing 10cms from f21 topsoil. k 12 dy concentrated on excavating the western half of this locus to reach either f18, compact layer or similar elevation as the eastern side. Excavated 10cms of f5, finding more sherds laying flat. The sherds were made into a feature, f23 sherd pavement. The features were drawn and relayed with the strategy to remove them tomorrow to see if f18 continues below.
