We should be able to close this locus and open a new one as the column on Saturday. We are about 10-15 cm above the old column, k106. Also spent time examining the relationship of the red packing, f189, the wall f72 and the stones of f188 and f168. Began creating the oblique baulk section in k12 and it is coming out very, very well. Moved the elevator to the west about a meter and got a new sifter which should make dirt removal go faster. -eq moved the elevator to the west about a meter and got a new sifter which should make dirt removal go faster. -sg meeting with gB, vS, pC and mS to address concerns over the plan to remove the stones f188, f190 and f168 to the west. vS and pC felt strongly that the red packing which we have called f189 is intentional and may be a part of a buildup adjacent to the wall f72 and believed we should keep the stones. f189 is similar to the brown/pink packing of f156 and f158 along the wall to the west. They also believe the accumulation south of f168 and f169 is different from the accumulation to the north. We looked at the area more closely in the meeting. It was decided to cut back the section under f188 in k10 to see how deeply founded these stones are. Currently they are in the way for us to go down in the column. Then we will follow the accumulation very closely. We moved the elevator to make this easier to do. These stones may be a wall but if they are highly founded and only a single course they are probably only a screen wall and not important for our purposes. k 110 dy finished removing the eastern baulk adjacent to k108, and continued going down in the rest of the locus. We finished the day about 10-15cm higher than the elevation in k106, the original column. When we are at this elevation, about 8800, we will create a new locus. Nothing remarkable about the soil in this accumulation, f163, today. Continues to be consistent with the accumulations excavated in k106. Cut back accumulation under the stones f188 which was declared today. We have named this accumulation f190. A primary reason for this cutback was to determine whether these stones were highly founded or were a wall. They are highly founded and we found Mitanni sherds in the accumulation that the stones rest on. These may be random although seemingly in line with the stones to the east, f168 and f169. The brown packing, f189 also has no contact with these stones. We will remove f188 on Saturday. f 188 ds May be part of a screen wall but have no real evidence of that at this time. Rests on f190 which contains Mitanni sherds. tc re f190 f 189 ;df a ds brown bricky material with pieces of carbon and calciferous material. Very similar to f156 and 158 which are packing and accumulation above the stones and along the wall f72 to the west. The large stone, f167, and other stones f165.8 and f167.1 rested on this accumulation and we thought it might be some type of wall extension perpendicular to the wall f72. It does not continue to the south nor does it extend under the stones of f190 or f188. May also not extend to the stones f168 or f169. k 10 dy examined the brown bricky packing accumulation which we have called f189. May also not extend to the stones f168 or f169. k 12 dy cut back the oblique baulk in the NE corner. Started 40cm back from the edge and sloped it down 2m to the first step. It looks very good.
