.bk J01 .fl P903ms.j .fd daily journal P903 .fn revised notes P904 by mS .ei mS .ed P903 .rd P903 .ri mS -dy in k110 we have finally reached the level of k106 and have declared a new locus, k111. We have also come down 2m since the last step and are cutting another step so we have moved excavations one meter to the west. k111 subsumes parts of k110, k106 and k14. We began by using f184 which is the brown accumulation in k106 because it stretched into k110. Continued with oblique baulk in k14. -sg meeting with gB, faB, vS, pC and mS regarding the area in k10 but now part of k110. We removed the accumulation from the north of the wall f188 and found it ran deeper than we first assumed. pC and vS noticed there was red packing, similar again to f189 in this area. We will continue to excavate from the north to find the final bottom of f188 and we will remove this wall as soon as possible. In section we see a layer of bekiya, f192, and will follow this to the wall. The larger stones may be a later rebuilding or continuation of this screen wall. We will go down in k110 to the south of f188 to the level of f192, the bekiya to see what information this gives us about the wall. The accumulations north and south of f188 the wall are very different. We are at the point where we should be able to find out whether this is an important wall or just a screen wall. There is no evidence of a street or other use patterns. k 110 dy reached the level of k106, 8800. We declared f191 which is a different accumulation from f163, more soft and brown, and is the same as f184 in k106. We are closing this locus at this point. k 111 dy declared this locus today. It is a combination of k110, k106 and k14. It also includes a portion of k108, but we will not excavate in this section. We created the next step and moved in one meter to the west. k111 will now be the column and all the pottery will be flagged. We began using f184 which is the brown accumulation from k106 because we reached the same elevation and it is the same accumulation. After some excavation, we declared f191 which runs up to the wall f188 from the south. We removed a large floating stone which seemed at first to be a part of f188, but was sitting on accumulation which contained Mitanni sherds. We then cut back more of the accumulation, f190 to find the north face. We have not found the bottom of f188 yet. To the north we continued removing the accumulation f190. While scraping the section under the wall we found a layer of what seemed to be bekiyah which is hard, dense clay material with ashy and white inclusions, f192. We had Ahmad follow this layer and it has a nice surface which we have called f193. This surface almost seems white and with pebbles. The accumulations on the north, f190 and f192 are very different from the accumulations, f184 and f191, to the south of the wall f188. We should be able to determine the exact relationships in the next day. f 190 ;df a ds probably Mitanni accumulation. Gray and sandy and similar to f163 throughout k110. Abuts w f188, and random floating stones sit in this accumulation. This should be the same as f76 from MZ16. tc ab f188 tc co f193 f 192 ;df a ds dense bricky clay, brown in color and with many inclusions of charcoal and white material. Called bekiyah by fAB and gB. This may equal f98 of MZ16. May be related to f156 and f158 the packing of the wall f72. In MZ16 this material was considered brick melt or perhaps it fell here rather than being placed here intentionally. f 193 ad accumulation ds nice surface on top of f192 the bekiyah. Whitish gray and with pebbles. Only a small piece is extant. tc co f192 f 188 df w ds this had previously been described as a stone or stones but may be a wall. The top layer are fairly large stones which don't make sense architecturally. The courses continue further down and the larger stones may just be a later placement of stones to keep the boundary of the wall. The higher stones definitely sit on Mitanni accumulation but uncertain of original building phase.
