We also had a stratigraphy meeting in the last part of the morning. -sf mL was out sick today, all others were on site today. -sr had our strata assignment meeting today with gB, mKB, fAB, mS, hQ and lC. -lb we have stayed in features for a long time because some of the accumulations are over a meter thick without much differentiation. This is not really the correct thing to do, but it has been done. Now that we are reaching Khabur levels and coming down onto the plaza we will make sure that we will change features approximately every 25 to 30 cm especially if we continue in accumulations with no differentiation. k 117 dy began removing f232 the pebble surface which we believe is Khabur because we have had no Mitanni material for a while and the surface seems clearly Khabur. We have left the 2 meters at the northern end at the cut because that is where the major concentration of sherds, bones and stones is. lC suggested that this is the actual surface and further north may just be a washout of the original surface. The inclusions are numerous at this point. Declared f235 which is the material beneath f232. This accumulation is brown and soft but seems to be a denser material than above. There are several Khabur sherds and lots of bones, but no other inclusions or items. We do have some charcoal and have taken samples. f 232 ds lC suggested that this the northern two meters of this feature is the actual surface and further north may just be a washout of the original surface. The inclusions are numerous at this point and it is indeed possible. f 231 ds this accumulation is directly on top of the surface f232 so we have defined it as accumulation a. f 235 ds accumulation below f232, the Mitanni pebble surface. This accumulation is brown and soft but seems to be a denser material than above. There are several Khabur and Mitanni sherds and lots of bones, but no other inclusions or items. k 118 dy continued digging the stairs down to the plaza level. Remained in f233 and this has remained consistent. It's interesting because we are excavating just north of k117 and f232 yet there is nothing seen in section of this feature so far. We have declared f236 which is similar to f235 in k117, and in fact may be the same accumulation. Only 50cm separate them so we are considering them the same depositionally. We have also uncovered the head of a large animal, possibly a horse or camel, which we are currently excavating. It is currently unclear whether there is more of the skeleton than just the head. We have declared this i42.
