The location and the nature of these walls let us assume a function linked to a Late Chalcolithic plaza and mound. To the south of a8 has been exposed a big collapse of stones likely coming from this structure. 438a m N gk127,130 gf288,259,336,362,349 ga8 This sub view shows clearly the big collapse of stones f336. These stones lying in two or three different levels form a sort of alignment, but they are clearly belonging to a collapse. The stones don't go to the east, and it is possible they have been removed, or simply the collapse didn't reach that distance. 439 N gk127 gf72,180,239,318,278,196,309,288,259,336,349 ga8 View showing the two big parallel walls f72 and f288. In the background the ED III revetment wall f72 stands for an height of three meters. At its base there are the two escarpments: the ^esc2 abutting the revetment wall for more then one meter and the ^esc1 abutting just its bottom and clearly rising to the west, likely following the wall itself. In the foreground the stone structure a8 formed by two bonded walls, was covered by the two escarpments and originally its purpose was likely linked to a Late Chalcolithic plaza and high mound, with the same function of the later ED III revetment wall f72. 440 N gk127,129 gf72,180,239,278,318,196,309,344,288,259 ga8 View showing the structure a8 formed by the bonded walls f259 and f288. The picture also shows the break f344 excavated by the water coming from west. Interesting is also the overposition of ^esc1, ashy accumulation f278 and ^esc2 all abutting the ED III revetment wall. The stone f318 form the eastern end of the stone escarpment that follows the base of the wall toward west and then to the north. On top of the ^esc2 is also visible the bench f180, the dating of which is uncertain. 441 NW gk127 gf288,259,344,336 View showing the stone wall f259, running north to south. This wall, bonded with the EW wall f288, form a L shaped structure. Right next ot the corner of the structure is visible a natural cut, probably caused by the water coming from the west. This lead us to assume that even before the construction of the ED III terrace complex there was a difference in height probably due to the presence of a LAte Chalcolithic Mound, as seem shown by the sherds recovered at the base of the structure, even if so far ia very small assemblage. 442 W gk127,129 gf239,196,341,363,353,365,366,368,344,288,259,336 ga8 View showing the corner of a8 formed by ^wall2 and ^wall3. The corner shows a big damage caused by the water coming from the west, in a period before the construction of the ED III terrace complex. Our artificial cut shows clearly the sequence of the ^esc2 f239, above the ^esc1. Below are visible the ashy accumulation f341 and the accumulation f363, still dating to ED III. Then we see the baqaya f353 put to the west of wall f259 in order to protect it from the water coming from west, that excavated the channel f344 in the earlyer Ninevite accumulations. This break was then filled by softer natural accumulation still dating to the Ninevite 5 period. 443 OH gk127,130 gf348,278,349,336,362,288,259,344 General over head view of k127 showing the stone structure a8 formed by the bonded walls f288 and f259. This structure for location and nature seems having the same function of the revetment wall f72, so part of a sacral area likely formed by a mound and a plaza. These structure are probably dating to Late Chalcolithic because of the pottery recovered in the small sunding k130 where we reached the base of the EW wall f259. The ceramic assemblage is small and further excavations will let us to solve every doubt. In the middle of k127 is visible the massive stone collapse likely coming from these two walls. 443a OH gk127,130 gf348,278,349,336,362,288,259,344 General over head view of k127 showing the stone structure a8 formed by the bonded walls f288 and f259. The ED III first escarpment is built in part on Ninevite 5 levels and in part on mixed ED III and Late chalcolithic levels. To the west the Mittani pavement f325 is abutting the ED III escarpment and covering the floor f338, possibly dating to Ninevite 5. To the east the situation is more confused for the presence of the later cuts and of the natural erosion. 444a E gk129 gf318,325,338 This view wants to show the stone escarpment running at the base of the revetment and stopping right at the level of the north to south wall f259. This escarpment is damaged in J1 (the part in foreground is situated in J5) and just the northern row of stone is preserved. The escarpment is likely built on top of sloping layers as J1 f338, possibly dating to Ninevite 5 period. 445 OH gk129 gf180,318,239,196,325,338 View showing k129 with the eastern portion of the stone escarpment f318, preserved just in the northern row of stones. These stones are embedded in the material of the ^esc1 and in part covered (to the east) by the reddish material of the ^esc2. The early escarpment seems built here on top of the sloping floor f338. This floor didn't gave us enough pottery to date it, but the lower accumulations are possibly dating to Ninevite 5 period, showing a very high presence of this material that we don't have to the east. The picture also shows the Mittani pebble and sherd pavement covering floor f338 and abutting the stone escarpment. 446 N gk132 gf72,370,371,372,374,375,376 View showing k132 after the removal of topsoil f370. We uncovered the hard floor f371, perhaps the ancient tell surface, on top of which wer built some structures, as walls f374 and f375, and were uncovered three big squared stones, lying vertically and forming some kind of installation. 446a t NE gk132 gf370,371,376,372 This view shows the stones f372.1 f372.2 and f372.3 lying vertically on their narrow side, almost at the same distance one from the other. They probably belong to some sort of installation linked with the structures to the west. Between the two western blocks, two big floating stones f37 were exposed belowe the topsoil. 447 OH gk132 gf371,372,375,374 View showing the structures found in k132. f374 is the portion of a wall running north to south and f375 seems a really badly preserved partion of wall running perpendicular to the ther one, even if any corner is preserved. These structures are just on top of floor f371, and are likely very late in date.
