-sf gM spent a major part of the morning at home processing objects for unit J2.  jW spent one hour at home entering and processing data.

dy Continued to excavate the hard, grayish brown accumulation, f63, by hand.  After breakfast, we reached an elevation of 8700 in the northern three-quarters of the locus and measured for the second one-meter step to the north.  Now we are excavating only the northern half of the locus.  The quantity of pottery recovered increased significantly compared to the last few days, but still only amounted to two q-lots.
sg gB notified jW that we will have a jackhammer on site tomorrow with an operator.  He will be on-site both in the morning and afternoon and the staff will needed to supervise the work.  We will use all available workmen during both sessions to break up the residue and remove the dirt from the locus.  If work proceeds efficiently, we may be able to re-excavate the full set of steps to an elevation of 8400 in the next two days.

dy Relayed a line of large stones, f75, in the southwest corner of the locus in preparation for their removal, after photographing, tomorrow.  Because they overhang parts of k104 and k105 where we are making a deep sounding to inspect the north face of the monumental wall, f11, we are removing them to enhance the safety of work there.

dy To improve safety, we removed a small, overhanging ledge of accumulation above the eastern edge of this "L" shaped locus.  Because it was a small quantity of clean loess and there was no pottery in it, the ledge was not assigned a separate feature number.
