Hajad excused by jW in the absence of gB and fAB to attend to personal business at 1100. Twelve workmen reported for afternoon work. -sf bL worked at home after breakfast processing objects and photographs. In the morning, cC participated in field work on loan from j4. rE relieved jW for one hour in the morning and afternoon so he could write the journal. All staff worked in the field in the afternoon except eI and eDB who stayed at home to process data. vN from J4 assisted in the afternoon. k 109 dy We finished excavating the narrow trench to expose the monumental wall, f11, and the memory stones atop it. We then excavated to the south baulk of k109, removing the rest of accumulation, f253 and part of accumlation, f257 below. Feature 257 was filled with pebbles and rocks and had an ashy hue. Late in the morning, about one meter from the west baulk and just on the south edge of the narrow trench we found a faience pendant and several beads, i20. In the afternoon we excavated carefully in the vicinity and found other associated beads, i21, i22, i23. k 108 dy We finished the excavation in the narrow trench to find the south face of monumental wall, f11 and the memory stones atop it. -dy We removed a stray baulk from J1 that bordered the west side of k109, assigning features and q-lots from our book. It was drawn and photographed before removal. k 23 dy We completed the removal of accumulation, f252 and found an E-W line of red bricks, f215, along the north baulk. To the west they were in a single layer, but to the east they seemed to be in two layers. The top bricks had been moved out of place and there was a N-S line of smaller bricks near pit a6. The E-W line of bricks probably capped the baqaya glacis, f109, but the function of the bricks near the pit cannot be determined because they are too eroded. f 215 ds A line of red bricks along the north baulk of k23. It is a single layer to the west, but has at least two courses to the east, the topmost of which are out of place. There were bricks on edge on a N-S line about 50cm long leading towards pit, a10. The function of this part cannot be determined because they are too eroded.
