These were placed approximately along the line of the top of the revetment wall, f11, after the wall had been covered by accumulation during the Mittani period. They were set into the wahal surface of the second glacis, f123, f148, z1. The stones most likely served as a reminder of where the wall had been as the temple continued in use after the original plaza, steps and wall systems were covered. As such they are often called memory stones in our journal entries. 17 109 is f244,f245,f246,f329,f330 A single line of five large limestone blocks oriented SE to NW along the northeastern corner of k109. Their extent is unknown as they appear to continue into unit J1. They are at the approximate elevation of the third glacis, but they cannot be definitely linked stratigraphically. The orientation of the center blocks, f244 and f246, (rectangular slabs set on the long edge and parallel to one another) suggests that they may have functioned as a doorway, but altertanately, the overall linear orientation suggests that all 5 stones may have functioned as a second set of memory stones in conjunction with a second Mittani rebuild of the glacis and memory stone system. a3. 3 108 is f33,f38,f123,f152,a16,a502 A group of elements which constitute the lower portion of the BA Temple Mound re-built in the Mittani period after the monumental wall had been covered by natural accumulation. It consists of a wahal mud glacis (f152 in k22 and k23; f123 in k108; and f33 and f38 in k101), a line of memory stones, a16 in k101, k108, and k109; and a wall apron a502 in k2 and k107. 18 101 is f11,f50,f109 A group of elements which constitute the lower portion of the BA Temple Mound built in the Early Dynastic period. It consists of a massive revetment wall, f11 in k101 and a glacis above it made of baqaya (local virgin soil), f50 in k101 and k12, and f109 in k13. It remained essentially intact until covered during a rebuild during the Mittani period. 11 109 is f40,f48,f85,f91,f273,f274,f275,f276,f277,f278,f279,f280,f281,f282,f288,f289,f290,f291,f581,f582,f583,f602,f603,f604,f605,f606,f607,f608,f609,f610,f611,f612,f613,f614 A group of 34 large limestone blocks located along the outward face (S) of the revetment wall, f11, in k109, k108, k101, k1, and k106. They are randomly oriented and distributed in depths ranging from a few centimeters to fifty centimeters below the top of f11. Most are located in k109 and the west part of k108. Their source is problematical, although they were most likely displaced from structures located higher to the north on the BA temple mound. There were two clusters of these stones: f40, f48, f85 and f91 in k101; and f289, f290, and f291 in k108.
