The Eastern Top of the Main Staircase

Excavations of the eastern portion of the Temple Terrace, at the top of the monumental staircase, yielded a picture different from the west. While to the west there are no traces of work activities, we have floors, accumulations and installations that indicate an ongoing functional use. This suggests that (a) the area is not properly a part of the Plaza or monumental Terrace, but rather of the service activities presumably connected with the Temple, and that (b) J4 can best be seen as delimiting the Plaza.
