.bk J06 .fl SZ31.j .fd various corrections .ed SZ31 .ei pC .rd SZ31 .ri pC k 100 ds k100 is a locus located in area C2 and was already excavated in previous years by the german team directed by Peter Pfälzner (see publications in MDOG for further information). This part of the tell is residencial, except for a stone structure, which in our assumption (gB and fAB) belongs to the temple area. Therefore we decided to better explore the stone structure this year. Being this area statigraphically connected to area J6, and located a few meters south of it, was decided to be documented under J6 book and supervision. nr k100 was not defined by markers, therefore there is no plot for this locus and we do not have the measurements. This was done in purpose, because we did not want to excavate and draw sections, but only to clean it. The dimensions of the locus are approximately long as the wall f24 and f27. sg all the soil removed in k100 was backfill, except for a small part above wall f27: we found palstic bags of the german excavation and mixed pottery; we found also some seal impressions, but this can be explained by the presence of a dump in this area and found by the german team. Looking at the fotos of the german excavation we can assume that they excavated deeper the us, expecially south of wall f24. f27, instead was excavated partly by the german team and this year we uncovered probably all the wall. We will excavate it completly next year, being this area very delicate, both for statigraphy and presence of lot of seal impressions. f 27 ds a stone wall running south-north abutting wall f24. Whith wall f24 builds a L shape structure, probably a rectangular building. It consists in a row of large stone blocks df w wm li .ed T106 .ei pC f 66 dy f66 is the baulk, which was excavated startigraphically, while we wanted to find the features found in k84, which were the dump f38, corresponding to f66. f66 covers floor f67 f 85 nr f85 is a part of a baulk, therefore was not excavated stratigraphically and has no type of contact f 99 ar these bricks are positioned here intentionally to support the oblique stone f100: this tell us that this stone has the funtion to mark the entrance to the staircase and the temple area; the stone and the bricks f99 are part of one building phase together with wall f129 and f130 f 100 ar the stone was seen already in section (East section k200, seen since was excavated by J2 in season 2005): it has a twin sone on the other side of the apron, which probably was located later than f100. They have both the function of mark out the entrance to the holy place .ed T108 f 112 nr while f112 was removed not stratigraphically, being a baulk of only 2m long and consisting in natural accumulations, it has no type of contact f 113 nr there is no view for this feature f 114 tc ov f110 .ed T109 f 135 ar while f110 was bein exposed a patch of f135 came out in the North-eastern part of the locus. afterwards f110 was totally exposed we decided to remove it and it came out f135 only in the eastern part of k85 and stopped where begins the slope. I assume that this floor was present everywhere in area J6, while it was found also in k84, k74 and in J4k73, but was very fragmentary and probably washed out (see ^floor2) f 138 dy to this feature we stopped excavating in k86 for this season f 142 sm f142 is the ashy fill of the elongated pit cut f122: is a brown soil composed by different horizontal layers with lot of bones, carbons, pottery. The north continuation of it was found in J4 (J4f137) f 151 ds soft reddish brown and wet organic soil with patches of ash f 172 pb this feature has been assigned and recorded but we do not know what it is f 177 ar f177 and f100 are two similar stones located intentionally in front of wall f130 and to the east side of the staircase. They are still yet not compleatly exposed and therefore is not possible to give conclusions, but we assume that they belong to the third millennium major construction phase of the temple terrace f 182 lc k84 pb this feature was recorded and assigned but we do not know what it is f 184 dy f184 was not excavated butonly exposed .rd S731 k 64 pr we excavated only in the south-west part of the square in order to go faster and to excavate only in the part in which we expected to find something dy we stopped excavating in k64, while we concentrate in the western part of J6. we decided to leave this area for next years .rd S724 k 65 dy we decided to stop excavating in k65 while we whanted to concentrate in the western portion of J6, and also because we found in this square only natural accumulations. f36 is the last feature dy we decided to stop excavating in this locus .rd s730 k 73 dy we decided to clean the south section of k73 while we observed that in the South-East corner there were bricks. Cleaning it we uncovered a wall which has only one row of bricks with mortar. The orientation is North-East South-West. While the piece of the wall is to small we can not decide if belongs to a structure, possibly related to f64 in k74, just next to it or something else. .rd T109 k 74 ds k74 is a regular square 5x5 m and defined by the following markers: m4245, m4251, m4243, m4293, m4294, m4299, m4717, m3833, m3817 .rd S826 .ri cVP dy We opened a small rectangular square in the outer face of this structure f166, inside the already existing hole of the glacis, searching down the wall. In the south part is still going down, but in the north end the lower layers of bricks seems to be projected outside, giving the impression of a "glacis"-like or "dyke"-like. dy We open a small rectangle running along the outer face of the possible wall f166, to be able to understand better its nature. In this micro-sounding the upper part consist in ashy layers but under it, and mixed, we have a brickfall accumulation, with brown soil and pieces of broken bricks. .rd T901 .ri pc k 75 dy we decided to stop excavating in k75 at the level of the glacis f109 and to dig only in the western squares k84-k87 f 69 tc ab f127 .rd T111 k 200 ds k200 is not a normal locus and belongs to J6 only because we decided to clean it and the pottery and earth was collected from J6 team. k200 corresponds to the german trench which was excavated by the Team of the University of Tuebingen in years 1998-2002; Pfaelzner MDOG 131, 1998). It is located directly west of J6 unit and is a long trench 2 meters wide and several meters long (for more exact location and measurement see the above publication) k 86 ds k86 is not a regular locus, but has a trapezoidal form and is very narrow; its shape is due to k200, the trench located West of it. k86 is defined by m4719, m3813, m4807, m4763, m4809, m4762 v 8 ds In this view is shown also the East section of k200, where is visible the brickfall ^bf2. North of it ^wall6 and ^wall5. It intents also to show all the monumental stone staircase located West of J6. with the excavation in J6 we want to open the area just East-South of the staircase to better understand the stratigraphy of the portion just next to it wich obviously is directly correlated to the area of J2 v 20 ds In k85 we reached a level were there is an interesting feature f37, which probably is a dump, instead in k75 there is still accumulation f22 with some bricks, which is higher than f37 v 73 ds in this view is possible to see better the different glacis and the floor f135 and f140 in relation to wall f127 v 76 ds brickfall f136 with stones f137. Under it ashy layer f139 v 91 nr this view does not exist v 92 ds f142 and f122 is the pit, which has an elongated form and here in the western side is its end. After we removed the pit f151 was found, which is a soft brown accumulation, still mittani in date. f164 instead is already 3rd Millennium and dates phase h33 v 96 ds This view was taken before the remove of wall f101; f170 is the soil between the stones, f163 is a stone which does not belong to wall f101: f101 is a mittani wall, instead f163 goes together with f164, a third millennium phase (h33) v 97 ds this view shows wall f101 before its removing. Here is visible that wall f127 rests on top of f101. v 100 ds This view shows the stratigraphy of the south section of k75, which is a very important section, showing the brickfall, which is almost 1m thick and the ashy layer f97 above glacis f109. This kind of sequence was found everywhere in J6 v 110b ds view of North section of k87 with string: it is visible brickfall f143 and f147 .rd T121 .ri pC a 2 ds a2 consists in wall f127 and the glacis f63 (^glacis1): the glacis is a hard and compact surface which is sloping and comes to wall f127, where possibly it ends. In this case the glacis has the function of glacis in j3, were a series of glacis were layed on top of the temple mound and end aganist the revetment wall. For similarity of situation the surfaces in J6 were named also glacis. ^ wall6 df w ns While we did not uncovered the wall till the bottom, we cannot be sure of its date. We can be sure it is more ancient than h33, while ^glacis3 abuts it. For the fact that is bounded to staircase J2f130 we think that is at least h23 (ED III). Another reason is the similarity of construction way to staircase J2f130 ^ wall8 df w ds the first line of stones is only visible, but from the german documentation (see k100) was clearly visible that there is another line under the one visible. Large stones are layed in a row, between stones there is mud. Stones are rougly shaped. The type of construction is similar to ^wall9, but also to ^wall6 ar the way of construction and the date of this wall together with ^wall9 (ED III, h23) let assume that the two walls are a building, possibly related to the temple monumental access. Also the possible structure is located axially south to the staircase ^ wall9 df w ds a line of large stones roughly shaped. Together with ^wall8 builds a L shape structure, which probably is a rectangular building (still to uncover). The type of construction is similar to ^wall8, but also to ^wall6 ar the way of construction and the date of this wall together with ^wall8 (ED III, h23) let assume that the two walls are a building, possibly related to the temple monumental access. Also the possible structure is located axially south to the staircase f 169 tc ab f101 .rd T205 .ri pc f 46 df ly ad fb ar During the excavation f46 was recognised as floor surface. It is a very compact surface and therefore was possible to give such definition. After looking carefully in the section (w200), this feature is located in the same elevation as the brickmelt f70 in k85 and it seems is going under it. I think f46 is more the brickmelt, which is also very compact. In v27 are clerly visible melted bricks. Also f46 is located on top of the brickfall f53 as the brickmelt f70
