Definition 2008-7-29cJC topsoil [Input file: S810CJC.J / S810CJC.-J]
Summary 2010-8-7cJC This feature is mostly composed of topsoil. Like many of the features in J7 it was excavated in as an arbitrary 50cm feature (see strategy section). Several floating stones were found in this feature and the associated baulks - f25, f4, f5, f6. Because this first feature was primarily topsoil the undecorated body sherds were discarded and only the decorated sherds and shape sherds were kept for analysis. This feature covers the whole locus, k1, and so was not relayed separately. The locus is defined by m4843, m4842, m4837, and m4838, however, a line from m4856 to m4874 in k4 defines the western edge of the excavated area and the limit of f1. Description/Count
Description 2008-8-3cJC Arbitrary change in feature from f9 after 50 cm. [Input file: S802CJC.J / S802CJC.-J]

Recovery/Assignment and the Record
Harmonization 2010-8-7cJC By looking at the q-lots and the measurements of the surrounding features it appears that this feature became deeper than the anticipated 50cm and is closer to 80cm in depth. The end elevation has been added as 9039 based on q-lot measurements. [Input file: U807CJC.J / U807CJC.-J]
Problems in recording 2010-8-7cJC No ending elevation for this feature was recorded. The beginning elevation of the feature below it, f44, has a top elevation of 9035 which is lower than the expected end elevation of this feature. This could be due to the difficulty of measuring the deep cuts in J7 due to lack of markers and the reliance on the surveyor for measurements. [Input file: U807CJC.J / U807CJC.-J]
Evolution 2010-10-21cJC Because this feature was excavated volumetrically it included both natural accumulations and brickfall. It has therefore been included under both the ^bf and ^accum specific labels. [Input file: U807CJC.J / U807CJC.-J]

Description/Count
Description 2008-8-2cJC concentrated accumulation of sherds, pebbles and bones. There seems to be a defined area where this surface appears. Procedure 2010-8-7cJC This baulk was especially thick as it bordered on the large trench and was used to protect the workmen while they worked high above the trench. We did not want to risk a portion of the edge of the trench collapsing. Once they had excavated down in k1 they had an area to work from and it was taken away by shafat until the last edge which was collapsed into the trench. This was also taken out by shafat. Definition 2008-8-10cJC volumetrically feature [Input file: S819CJC.J / S819CJC.-J]
Summary 2010-8-7cJC This feature is a baulk bordering the cement staircase. It was excavated as a volumetric feature and is not directly equivalent to any features although it covers the same depth as f15, f16, f19, and f42. It was an oblique cut and shaped like a triangle when viewed from the side. [Input file: U807CJC.J / U807CJC.-J]

Description/Count
Description 2008-8-13cJC Oblique west section of k5 bordering the cement staircase. This section was only 40cm thick and covered the area from m4845 and m4834. It was 135 cm deep when it was removed. [Input file: S816CJC.J / S816CJC.-J]
2010-8-7cJC This feature was a baulk that bordered the cement staircase that was built in MZ20 by a team of workmen led by lC. The cement staircase was recorded as part of J2. This baulk was composed of natural accumulations and brickfall. A small border was still left next to the staircase (which was later removed in MZ22) to prevent erosion of the staircase. [Input file: U807CJC.J / U807CJC.-J]

Recovery/Assignment and the Record
Strategy 2010-8-7cJC This baulk was cut back to create a straight viewing line from the southern end of J7 to the monumental staircase. It was removed quickly as a large volumetric unit with only one q-lot. It was a conscious decision to value time over accuracy as we already had stratigraphically excavated features in k4 and k5 bordering this baulk. [Input file: U807CJC.J / U807CJC.-J]

Recovery/Assignment and the Record
Strategy 2010-8-7cJC After f44 had been excavated k3 was cut back one meter from the inside of trench k200. No features were assigned to that cleaning operation but ash and brickfall were seen in section. These are not assigned to f44, but rather were assigned feature numbers ( f57 and f58) during the study season. They are directly below f44 although they were only exposed, not excavated. Description 2008-8-26cJC North baulk in k5. This baulk is primarily composed of natural accumulations covering brickfall. It was excavated it one piece down to about 50 cm above the bottom where it was excavated with the small pick to recover as many bones as possible as a skull ( i3) was found close by. [Input file: S826CJC.J / S826CJC.-J]

Recovery/Assignment and the Record
Strategy 2010-8-7cJC As it was one of the last features excavated during the season it had to be removed quickly and was thus taken down all as one piece rather than in smaller features. This resulted in a mixing of brickfall and natural accumulations but as we had the stratified deposits from k4 and k5 we did not think it was necessary to excavate the baulk in small sections. Summary 2010-8-7cJC This feature is a small portion of the north baulk of k3. It was the portion remaining above where we stepped the loci in to save time in order to reach the bottom before the end of the season. It is at the beginning of the brickfall in k3 by elevation but it not certain to be only composed of brickfall so it is listed as mixed. It is probably a mixture of the level where f12 and f44 meet.
Description/Count
Description 2010-8-7cJC Brickfall layer seen in western section of k3. It has clearly articulated red and gray bricks. It was discovered during a cleaning operation. This feature was only exposed, not excavated. It covers a thick layer of ash ( f58). [Input file: U807CJC.J / U807CJC.-J]

Recovery/Assignment and the Record
Strategy 2010-8-7cJC After k3 had been finished being excavated during the 2008 season gB wanted to cut back k3 by one meter from inside k200. As this was considered a cleaning operation of the trench no features were assigned. In the study season of 2010 it became necessary to refer to the brickfall and ash seen in this section and so feature numbers were assigned. As these features were only identified in the cleaning of the section they have only been exposed, not excavated. [Input file: U807CJC.J / U807CJC.-J]
