May be a template for a stone cutter or it may be a sort of temporary seal not designed for many uses. The scene is incised in the clay. There appear to be four main elements in the scene. There are 3 figures and a tree. To the right of the tree is what appears to be a figure seated on a chair or box facing the right, away from the tree. This figure's arm is held out toward the right. There is nothing clearly visible in the hand. Moving to the right the next section is badly damaged. The next visible element is another figure, this time facing left toward the seated figure. This figure is standing with his/her arm reaching toward the seated figure. He/She appears to be wearing a hat or headress. Just to the left of the tree is the last element, another standing figure. This figure is facing the tree. This portion is not well-preserved but an armin reaching up in front of th etree is visible. The seal is damaged and very fragile. It will be sent to conservation to be cleaned and then it may be rolled to see the scene better. There is a small fragment broken off from the bottom. ht 2.38 w1 1.46 w2 0.4 cn damaged wm cl co very pale brown c# 10YR 8/3 i 1 df ja ds Small jar with a bulbous shape. It has a small disk base that is slightly concave. The rim is small an the jar has a short narrow neck. The rim is mostly flat but has signs of wear on one edge. The inside of the jar is black and the outside is reddish. It does not appear to be painted but it has not been cleaned. There is evidence of secondary burning in patches on the outside, usually at the point where the sides come out the furthest. It may be a lamp, although it has no clear place to put the wick. Perhaps the wick hung down and caused the secondary burning on the outside. There are small white inclusions in the ware. The jar was broken during excavation, a large pick put a hole through both sides. Most of the fragments were collected. It will be sent to conservation to be cleaned and repaired. The diameter of the rim is 3.2 cm. The thickness of the rim is 0.5 cm. The diameter of the base is 4.35 cm. ht 9.55 w1 10.1 co reddish yellow outside co black inside c# 5YR7/6 cn broken wm cl .rd S816 .ri eA q 41.1 df fg ds It is the posterier part of a large animal figurine. The body is well-preserved and it has incisions vertically on its sides, probably meant to indicate hair. the vertical lines originate from the middle of the back. The width is take from the widest point at the center of the blade. ds A single-edged iron dirk (short blade), well-preserved and missing the lower section of the tang and handle. One rivet is preserved. It remains inserted through the tang of the blade with one end slightly bent and peened - as a nail head might be. The blade portion is square on one end and is sharper on the other. The edge no longer remains and heavy pitting and flaking from iron oxidation covers the entire surface of the piece. The point is rounded at the top. The shape of the blade is slightly bent - this form is especially visible in the contour of the square edge of the blade. A triangular break at the end of the blade near the preserved rivet indicates the piece was once longer and most likely consisted of at least one more rivet, as a minimum of two rivets are necessary to hold a handle in place. As a point of interest, a small cylindrical iron rivet section was found in A20 (A20.27) with nearly the same diameter as that found preserved on this piece. It was also found benearth topsoil, and may be an indicator of a standard rivet type.
