Emplacement: introduction

Giorgio Buccellati – June 2010

The basic concepts are explained within the section on Principles of stratigraphic analysis. It must be stressed that elements are viewed strictly from the point of view of emplacement.

The categories employed are for the most part in common use, except for “amorphous amassment” and “ordered aggregation, ” for which I could not find an alternative adequate term. All terms are fully defined in the Grammar.

In this section one will find an overview of elements within any given book, sorted by morphological categories relating to the individual elements in their internal configuration, and by the nature of their interrelationship, i.e., by the types of contact.

A fuller typological description is given under typology.
