.bk J02 .fl O726ap.j .fd daily journal .rd O725 .ri ap .ed O726 .ei ap -wk we have five new workmen (shovel and wheelbarrow guys: Radwan Mohammed, Shiar Hussein, Ahmed Hussein, Ibrahim and Zueir). -sy marker m3808 came out during the excavation. -sg the goal of these next days is understanding how the apron was joined with the doorjam visible in the eastern side of the German trench. For this reason the main effort will be concentrated in k3, k13, k4, k14 and, above all, on the western side of the German trench (eastern baulk of k4 and k5). k 3 dy at the moment this is the most interesting square for the stratigraphic connections. We started going down in the southern part of the square, south to the stones (f32, q249) but about 20 cm down (m3882 + 62 - 153) we noticed two different features: f97 (q258, q260) is in the eastern part of the square. The soil is not particularly compact, brownish/reddish with large amount of sherds and pebbles of small and medium size. In the western part of the southern half of the square instead we noticed a different kind of soil (f98, q259). Here the soil is rather hard with a large amount of very compact gravels and few sherds. The texture is quite similar to the soil which was found last year in J1 but here it's limited at one lens. In the northern part of the square we also removed the columns of soil under the eroded stones collecting some sherds (f90, q262). k 4 dy we are going down in all the square, always removing the layer which was below the "Mittanic floor" . We started with the eastern half (f81, q248) and we went on with all the square (f81, q252 and q261). In the meantime we are removing also the eastern trench (f79, q251) which, more properly is the western side of the German trench, trying to reach the stones of the gateway. k 13 dy we are going on in the southern part of the square where there are not stones. In a first time we finished to remove the columns of soil which were below the stones remove by the crane (f91, q246) and after we reached a new feature (f95, q255). This feature is different for texture and colour. The colour is brownish and the consistency quite soft. In the south-eastern corner we found remains of the plastic so it appears clear that this part of the square was already dug by the Germans. k 14 dy we are going down in all the square continuing to remove the layer below the "Mittanic floor" (f76, q247 and q257). k 84 dy we are going down excavating a new feature (f96, q250) which is underneath the northern baulk of k84, south to the stones in k83. k 93 dy we are still removing the eastern baulk of k93 (f88, q250) and the soil underneath the baulk (f94, q253).
