Recovery/Assignment

Roster Date Author Record
Daily notes about recovery of elements 2008-08-05 lH We started excavating the topsoil of this locus, f105. It looks soft, chunky and powdery. It covered a big limestone which sits in it in the south western quadrant of this locus. [Input: S805LH.j]
2008-08-06 jW After finishing the removal of the east baulk of k34, we resumed excavating in this locus. In natural accumulation, f115, we uncovered a large, isolated limestone block, f116, in the middle of the locus. In the southeastern quadrant was a cluster of melon-sized stones, f120. [Input: S807JW.j]
2008-08-09 jW Continued to excavate natural accumulation, f115, with large picks. Documented and removed isolated floating stone, f116, and isolated cluster of stones, f120. [Input: S809JW.j]
2008-08-10 lH We continued excavating the soft natural accumulation, f129, which is overlayed by a group of big limestones, f130, in the southwestern part of it. Among the collected pottery from the accumulation of f129, q185, we found a Middle Assyrian style base, which is relatively thick with a string cut, flat bottom. In the middle of the southern edge of the last mentioned accumulation, f129, we noticed an ashy soft spot coverd a big stone. At least five big limestones are scattered among the soil of f129, but we didn`t label them as a new feature because we don`t know the extent of them. [Input: S810LH.j]
2008-08-16 jW Took a series of photographs, v82, to document features excavated in the past week. Finished excavating the safety baulk accumulation under topsoil, f115. In the process, we exposed more of floor, f143, which extended to the east. [Input: S816JW.j]
2008-08-17 jW We cleaned and photographed, v86, the full extent of the exposed floor surface, f143. We began removing the volumetric material in the north baulk, f153. [Input: S817JW.j]
2008-08-18 jW Began to remove the north baulk as volumetric material, f155. [Input: S818JW.j]
