.bk J07 .fl S817cjc.j .fd q-log, daily journal .ed S817 .ei cJC .rd S817 .ri cJC -dy Yesterday we installed a shaffat in k2 and that helped facilitate the removal of the baulks. Today we began operating another shaffat in addition to the one in k2. The shaffat itself is in J6 but we have a chute that takes the dirt down to the shaffat. The dirt from both shaffats goes directly to a tractor so we do not need any wheelbarrows, this frees up the workmen to work shoveling the dirt into the shaffats which is an almost continuous process. After breakfast hB came to reestablish the lines for the north baulks. We relayed and removed the large stones (f29 and f27) in the east baulk of k2. The installation of the shaffats has increased the rate of recovery of pottery and q-items as each pile of dirt is examined twice, first by the pickmen as they are excavating and again by the shaffat operator who can remove sherds and q-items from the base of the shaffat. In this way the shaffat almost functions as a screen. -sg North baulks were reestablished and will be left in place until the end of excavations. These baulks are important because there remains no east-west baulks across the cut of the German excavation in area C2 (now J6k200), and these baulks, along with those in J6k86 and J6k87, will help bridge this gap by providing an east-west section, albeit broken by the cut of the trench. -eq Today mO came an installed a chute to take dirt down to J6k200 where there is a large shaffat. This shaffat takes the dirt out and directly to a tractor. To operate this system only requires 2 workmen, one to shovel the dirt at the top of the chute and another at the bottom of the shaffat to push the dirt into the shaffat and remove any stones or sherds. -wk Shindar Hessu (sH) will take q-lots and assist with q-lots. He is a student from Damascus who was hired as a workman. f 29 nm This stone is 66cm wide, 72 cm long and 13 cm in height. el 9145 @top el 9132 @bottom f 37 nm This stone is 37 cm wide, 68 cm long and 24 cm in height. el 9147 @top el 9123 @bottom q 43 nr About 50 cm of the north baulk of k3 was accidentaly included in this q-lot before they could be separated. This mistake occured because the markers had all been removed in the process of removing the baulks. .rd S816 .ri sH q 41 p,b 27 3 m4841 500 N 200 E m4841 0 0 135 .ri cJC 42 p,b 23 2 m4985 500 S 150 E m4890 0 0 135 East baulk 43 p,b 32 4 m4893 400 S 150 E m4893 0 0 135 East baulk .rd S817 .ri cJC 44 p,b 26 3 m4984 100 S 240 E m4840 0 0 135 North baulk k3 45 p,b 23 2 m4985 500 S 130 E m4861 0 0 135 East baulk k2
