In k26, the level of pottery decreased substantially. Conversely, the pottery in k27 increased dramatically. -sg Today, after removing f291, the stone in k25, we will continue excavating down in only k27. The wall f326 is confusing, and we are not sure whether it originates on the first floor or if it is a later construction. By following it down in only k27, we intend to follow the face down until it ends or until it is level with k26. If the wall is ephemeral and stops, and the two ^ac join, then we will be able to confidently dig them both separately. .rd K712 i 89 df ta ds unepigraphic, uninscribed tablet P99 sent to sb for conservation lg 5.7 w1 3.7 th 2.5 c# 10YR6/3 co pale brown i 91 df ma ds metal wire curved into a ring, too dirty to tell the metal lg 1.9 th 0.2 P99 sent to sb for conservation i 90 df ma ds metal wire curved into a ring, too dirty to tell the metal lg 1.9 th 0.15 P99 sent to sb for conservation .rd K713 -sg Since we are nearly equal in k27 to the level of k26, we will continue digging in only k27 today. If we reach an equal elevation today, then we will look closely again at the wall f326 and decide whether it continues to that elevation and the two loci should be dug separately, or whether it is ephemeral and can be removed, and the two loci can be dug together. f 331 ds f331 was originally created because of a marked decrease in pottery in the ^a in k27. It is brown in color, crumbly, and not very greasy. Perhaps it is related to the sterile brown in k24, 25, and 26, which would suggest that the wall f326 is only ephemeral. k 27 dy In our new pickrun this morning, three new features appeared. Around the circumference of the circle, there appears to be a separate layer of material, between 10 and 20cm thick, either red or yellow-brown in color. It is on the opposite side of the fissure f321 from the wall f326. Because we have the step of material next to the wall, it is impossible to tell whether it continues there. A thick ashy layer appeared along the N half of the square. Finally, a number of larger stones are beginning to be found in the ^a. f 333 ds This black layer underneath f331 slopes down to the S. It is very dark and ashy, and in parts seems to be an actual compacted floor surface. This has led gb to theorize that it might mark the bottom of the pit-like fill and seals everything below it. .rd K715 -sg Because we have reached the same level in loci k26 and 27, we will now proceed down in both loci at the same time. Keeping equal elevations in both loci will be difficult, since in k26, we seem to have reached the final layer of ^a, while in k27, we are uncovering the top of a sloping black layer, f333. f 334 ds A broken black pocket in the SW corner of k27. Since it does not appear to relate to the sloping black layer f333 (which presumably lies further underneath), we are removing it. tc si f331 f 335 ds These are the patches of white material over f331 in the N half of k27. Probably, they are related to the contents of the ^a in k27, like f328 or 331. tc ov f333 f 333 ds It appears that the black ash was only a thin layer of very ashy pockets covering more brown ^a. Although it seemed to be a new ^a, it turned out to be simply a thin layer, and does not even fill the whole locus, but only the N half. tc si f331 f 332 23 st-is large stone 333 27 a black 334 27 a 335 27 a f 333 ds ashy layer under f331 f 332 ds large stone found S of a31 in gullywash/brickfall (r431?) f 331 tc co f333 f 334 ds broken ashy layer in SW corner of locus f 335 ds white layer on top of f333 in N half of locus i 94 331 27 676 fg head with ears, neck, mane q 669 pb 330 26 W part of locus m5018 5 152 10 670 pb 331 27 center part of locus m5018 7 152 10 671 pbis 331 27 S part of locus m5018 7 152 10 672 pb 331 27 S part of locus m5018 7 152 10 673 pbi 330 26 E part of locus m5018 5 152 10 674 pbi 334 27 N half of feature m5018 7 152 10 675 pb 334 27 S half of feature m5018 7 152 10 676 pb 331 27 m5018 3 158 10 677 pbi 330 26 m5018 11 168 10 678 b 335 27 m5018 3 158 10 679 pb 333 27 m5018 21 145 10 680 pb 330 26 m5018 11 168 10 671.1 ca cl unknown 4.5 6 5.5 671.51 sm 3 bags of soil sample 674.51 la li unworked stone lot 673.1 la li unworked stone lot 677.1 cl 679.51 sm soil sample 680.1 la lithic lot v 115 E ga32 gk26,27 gf330,gf326,gf331,gf333,gf335 115b t E gk27 ga32 gf331,gf333,gf329 tight of E face, color difference 115a m E gk27 ga32 gf331,gf333,gf316,gf330,gf335
