4. TYPOLOGY

Morphology

Roster Date Author Record
Iconographic description, specific 2024-08-27 mKB Four seal impressions were excavated in A6 that had been sealed by the same cylinder seal: i61, i65, i97, q355.1. The iconography shows a standing bearded god facing right wearing a horned crown and a belted skirt with vertical pleats. With elbows bent both his hands are extended toward the right. The next bearded god is also standing facing right and wearing a belted skirt with vertical pleats. From the middle of his skirt extend three sprigs of wheat. Seated figure (a deity but the upper half of the figure is not preserved) facing left wearing a flounced garment. The stool is divided into vertical sections. Below his feet is unclear but probably a patterned platform. [Input: ZI827mKB.j]
2026-09-29 mKB Three deities are depicted in this seal; one is seated facing left on a stool with a pattern of parallel vertical lines. This deity wears a deeply pleated long garment; below the feet is a low platform. Two deities facing right have their hands extended toward the seated figure but they appear to have nothing in their hands. They both wear only a deeply pleated skirt with a belt; their beards are shown as four parallel vertical lines extending to mid-chest. Their crowns have curving horns topped by upright sprigs held up by a thin flat piece. This type of crown in worn by other deities on Urkesh seal impressions, for example A1.483 showing a double faced god wearing this type of horned crown. Unusual however is the addition of three sprigs of wheat extending out of the skirt of the first standing deity only. [Input: ZK929 gB.j]
