North and south portions now at approximately the same level. Still finding large quantities of sherds throughout. Thoroughly cleaned at the end of the day to facilitate analysis of next phase in excavating this locus. k 3 dy removed accumulations from around the west and north faces and the top of wall foundation/platform, f155, in order to define its shape and extents. Accumulation,f142, continued to yeild large quantities of bone. Accumulation, f99, appears to cover the pebble floor, f80, as it meets the wall. Actually, there are only scattered pebbles on this surface. Rather, it appears more like the tamped earth floor, f153, found in the interior portions of k6. At the south end of the locus, we encountered a reddish-brown lens of accumulation, f157, next to wall, f157. The accumulation on top of wall, f157, yeilded pottery, bones and some obsidian blades. The top surface of wall, f157, was rough and completely unfinished. We could find no evidence of either a brick or clay surface on the top. k 4 dy continued to excavate accumulations, f99 and f100, between walls, f157 and f1. We are continuing to approach layer, f154, carefully. In preparing for a photograph that will show the contrasts in color and texture between various accumulations in the SE corner of the locus, may have cut a corner of brickwork that may extend from the south side of wall, f157, to the north side of wall, f1. f 126 df ac ds dark, gray-brown ashy material beneath brickfall layer, f113 in k3. Much of the clear stratigraphy apparent in the SE corner of k4 is lost as one moves north and west towards and through k3 and merges into this mixed accumulation. Tends to become dense and sticky as one approaches the depth of the pebble floor, f80, expected to be underneath in most of k3 and k4. c# 10YR4/3 co dark brown f 157 df lb ds lense of reddish-brown accumulation/packing along the last meter of the southern end of the west face of wall, f155. Origin unknown, but similar in color to packing used elsewhere between floors. op in the last few minuets of excavation on J716, while following f157 around the SW corner of wall, found evidence of deteriorated brickwork of the same approximate color. Bleedoff from this may have been the source of the lense, although I have no idea why it was located only in that place. c# 5YR4/4 co reddish-brown P1 finished excavating on J716 f 156 df ac ds accumulation (similar to f126) covering stones that form wall, f155. Separated because we expected to find a mortar-like covering on the wall, but did not. Kept a separate feature to segregate sherds and other artifacts that may have been emplaced at the time that the wall was in use. c# 10YR4/3 co dark brown .rd J714 .ri gb f 155 M1 whether a wall or a raised platform, this seems to match the opening left by the "threshold" in k6. We may expect the continuation in k9 as projected, and similarly a matching "threshold" under areas A2/A7. Defining further (even within the limits of the season) the scope of this wall will provide a powerful argument for the palace interpretation of AK. v 30 ph the SE corner of k4 is interesting because it has a number of layers of accumulation layers with high color contrast, as well as a brickfall overlay to seal the layers below. This photo illustrates this quite well and places it with respect to a newly discovered major wall, f155.
