Anwar, Hussein Sadiq and Ismail Ramadan absent. -eq first day for pipe to bottom of k9 for dirt removal. Bottom half of pipe not installed. System was usable but dirty. Rotated 3 removal persons per half day to carry excavated material to dump in wheelbarrows. -eq first day for tent suspended from overhead wires. It worked well, shielding k23 and k24 where the heavy picking was being done. k 11 sg clarify the situation with respect to the possible brickwork in the west side of the north baulk, shich is being removed. dy Suliman and Kamiran cleared away all obvious signs of accumulation. What remains is confusing mass of corners and levels of bricks and and/or very hard material of the same color. The situation results from a combination ancient pit cuts and two excavations 11 years apart. jlw believes that it may be another platform, similar to the one in k21 just to the north, particularly since the bricks, which can be seen in section on the west baulk, are also virtually the same color as the surrounding accumulation, which also is not soft. We will await a consultation with gb before designating features. k 21 dy continued to clarify the relationship between the foundation of the platform, f273 and the wall foundation, f225, to the south. It now appears that the east side of the platform foundation is built upon another foundation that is wider than the platform itself and that is joined with f225. Recorded and emoved a small line of stones, f277. Encountered a new layer of accumulation, f276, under accumulation, f274. Encountered another group of stones, f279, under the f277 stones. k 14 dy Mizar finished cleaning. One well preserved upper third of a jar, i128, and two bones that may be human, q735, were found. k 24 dy Mizar opened this new locus. We reserved a qlot for the pottery after clearing away material used to divert water from the excavation, but then discovered plastic sheeting that indicated that there was also backfill covering the topsoil. We will start collecting pottery from this locus on L708. f 274 df ts ds topsoil in k23 P2 L707 tc co f276 f 275 df ts ds topsoil in k24 covered by a thick layer of dirt used to construct berms to divert water from excavations to the south. f 276 df a ds accumulation under topsoil, f274 in k23. Resembles accumulation around brickwork in k14. f 277 df pb ds a line of large stones extending N-S along the middle southern edge of k21. Measured for AutoCAD plot. One stone was half of a quern. P2 L707 tc co f279 f 278 df pb ds a large pile of pebbles, stones and sherds, most likely deposited by gully wash between slight rises to the east and west. f 279 df pb ds reddish stones below stones in f277, which appear to follow the east boundary of wall foundation, f225 and platform foundation, f273.
