Based on the various building phases and cuts of earlier architecture by later structures they believe that the walls and floors, for example f230, in k10, the lowest level excavated this season could be assigned to Phase 4a. The k11 architecture, including walls, platforms and floor, f247, are probably Phase 4b. The large pit, a29, in the north baulk of k11 and the south part of k21, where we found the first Khabur sherd this season, is probably Phase 5a. The platform a25, the stone pavement f205 in k21, and the wall foundation f225 in k11 and k21 are most likely Phase 5b. To clarify the nature and extent of the platform, gb suggested that we clean k31 to the north of a25, where it may be better preserved. k 24 dy finally cleared away backdirt and began to excavate topsoil, f275. Progress slower than hoped for because all three active loci are generating large quantities of soil which must be removed through the pipe, which is in constant use. f 278 dy while removing the stones and sherds, jlw noticed that there was a disorganized group with a white coating on one side. They may have been part of a nearby floor that washed down the gully to the findspot. P2 L708 tc si f276 f 224 nr lowest Khabur sherd to date, not in a pit, found in floor accumulation at elevation 8930. P2 L708 f 212 nr red granular material found in the bottom of the pit. From marks along the N baulk, we estimate that the pit, mostly excavated in 1990 was 50 cm deep. P1 removed L708 -mk m2619 loosened and removed. k 21 dy finished clearing the floor accumulation (determined to be so by the number of sherds and specks of charcoal), f224, but did not excavate the large stone paving, f205, which appear to sit in f224. k 31 dy began to clean the topsoil and backfill from this locus.
