This season, we cleaned and realigned the baulks and did some minor clarification of features since the complete record of the earlier work was not available on site. While doing this we discovered that f211, which had clearly been identified in MZ6, was part of a series of four walls that enclosed an area of about 4 square meters. Since there were only two layers of brick remaining and no obvious side entrance, our working assumption is that this aggregate, a30, is a tomb. v71 documents the state in which we left the possible tomb, which we only dug to a depth of 50cm without finding human bones or grave goods, due to the lack of time in this, an exploratory season. v 72 ph this photograph documents the section of the east baulk of k24. Views with string are used to match the photo with the drawn section. v 73 ph this photograph documents the progress of excavation in k24 in MZ14. Only four architectural features were saved: near the surface, a row of large stones that may have been the threshold of an entrance to a house, f287; and at a lower level, an installation possibly used for processing grain, f339, an associated large stone receiving vessel, i153, and a stone and pebble floor surface, f336. v 74 ph this photograph documents the major architecture in k14, immediately adjacent to the major walls discovered in A11 during the MZ12 season. The two are a massive wall corner, f255, in the SE quadrant and a row of bricks, f263, extending west from the SW corner of f255. v 75 ph this photograph documents the major architecture in k15, one of two loci immediately adjacent to the major walls discovered in A11 during the MZ12 season. The primary feature is a massive wall corner, f309, in the SE quadrant. v 76 ph this photograph documents the major architecture in k25, one of two loci at the same elevation as, and immediately to the north of the highest and best-preserved major walls discovered in A11 during the MZ12 season. The two features visible are a massive layer of bricks, probably a wall, f328, and a stone and sherd floor surface, f326, that is not associated with the wall, but probably part of a later, scattered occupation phase. .rd L802 v 77 ph this photograph documents the section of the south baulk of k24. The main view had to be taken with a wide-angle lens, therefore the auxilliary views are taken in a east and west section to preserve as much accurate detail as possible with the non-distorting lens. The subviews with string are used to match the photo with the drawn section. v 78 ph the goal of this year's work was to excavate a number of squares between two known Phase 4 and Phase 5 settlements to see if there were any links between them. We stopped excavating a locus as soon as we encountered evidence of signficant architecture. The loci close to the gully suffered significant damage before they were completely covered by accumulation. The final photograph for k23 illustrates this point by highlighting a large wall, f288, that has suffered water damage and erosion. Only a single course of bricks at the top is readily distinguisable - the rest has conjealed into an amorphous mass that resembles pise. A layer of large stones just under the surface, f278, was preserved in the west baulk on a pedistle for future study since is clearly linked to a similar layer to the west in k22. v 71 SW gk10 ga30 gf262,230 possible tomb that was not dug this season 72 S gk24 section of east baulk with string 72a m S gk24 section of east baulk without string 73 N gk24 gf287,336,338 gi153 final photograph of k24 74 E gk14 gf255,263 final photograph of k14 75 E gk15 gf309 final photograph of k15 76 E gk25 gf326,328 final photograph of k25 77 S gk24 section of south baulk without string 77a m S gk24 east half of section of south baulk with string 77b m S gk24 west half of section of south baulk with string 77c m S gk24 east half of section of south baulk without string 77d m S gk24 east half of section of south baulk without string 78 NW gk23 gf278,288 final photograph of k23
