It is composed of a semicircular wall, f103, and a small cooking area, f104, in which the cooking vessel i77 was located. This area is especially interesting due to the presence of a11 next to it, but at a lower elevation. I have hypothesized that these two structures represent a sequence of cooking installations, composed of a cooking area and a surrounding wall, associated with the pathway between the platform and the underground structure. As would be expected due to its higher elevation, a12 is simpler and of lower quality than a11. However, gb argued that a12 was too simple to be associated with the pathway, and that it was outside the area of the pathway. We have since found white reed layers in k2 and k12 that include a12 at least partly in their route. .rd N907 f 158 11 fi m3352 69 105 m3351 127 143 159 11 fi m3351 144 141 m3351 127 143 160 2 fa m3351 128 118 m3327 110 134 161 1 fa m3351 129 118 m3327 110 134 162 12 fa m3327 35 118 m3006 45 158 f 158 ds This is the modern reddish fill of the burlap bag, equal to f139, in the east baulk of k11. It was not excavated this season. =l f140 f 139 =l f158 f 140 =l f159 f 160 ds These are the sequence of white floor layers found within f33 and f122 in k2. Although there are multiple layers, presumably representing multiple instances of the reed matting, we have not tried to differentiate them because we have not yet excavated them. =l f161 f 122 nd We made an error excavating f122 this season. Although we found some of the white reed matting layers within it as we excavated down, instead of making the whole area a new feature (since the reed matting was presumably associated with a floor/surface at that elevation), we only renamed the white layers themselves, as f160. The soil surrounding them we left as f122 and continued to excavate. Therefore, the layers of f122 below the top of f160 should properly be considered part of a different feature, f160. ;=l f99 ;=l f121 ;=l f33 ;=l f97 f 33 nd We made an error excavating f122 and f33 this season. Therefore, the layers of f122 and f33 below the top of f160 should properly be considered part of a different feature, f160. ;=l f99 ;=l f121 ;=l f97 ;=l f122 f 161 ds These are the white reed matting layers within f99 in k1. Originally, f99 was defined as the white layers, but in practice, it was the soil around the white layers, where the reed matting had not been preserved. We did not actually remove the white layers themselves, except within the eastern part of k100, which we (incorrectly) labelled f97. f97, f121 and f99 were the (presumed) floor surfaces associated with each of the reed mats. Although the white layers in fact are a series of multiple instances, we have not given them individual numbers because we have not excavated them yet. =l f160 f 121 nd This layer was incorrectly labelled, as the white reed matting layers in the k100 east baulk. In fact, f121 was the soil surrounding the white layers, where the reed matting had not been preserved. It is the series of (presumed) floor surfaces associated with f161, the actual number of the white reed matting layers. ;=l f99 =l f97 ;=l f33 ;=l f122 f 99 nd This layer was incorrectly labelled, as the white reed matting layers in k1. In fact, f99 was the soil surrounding the white layers, where the reed matting had not been preserved. It is the series of (presumed) floor surfaces associated with f161, the actual number of the white reed matting layers. In order to see multiple layers of the reed matting, we excavated within f99 after we found the topmost preserved white layers of f161, independently of the white layers associated with each surface, and therefore (since the white layers were the only indications that we possessed of separate layers of accumulations) independently of separate accumulations. ;=l f97 ;=l f121 ;=l f33 ;=l f122 f 97 nd This layer was incorrectly labelled, as the white reed matting layers in k100. In fact, f97 was the soil surrounding the white layers, where the reed matting had not been preserved. It is the series of (presumed) floor surfaces associated with f161, the actual number of the white reed matting layers. We tried to excavate f97 according to the layers of accumulation associated with the reed matting layers, but stopped at gb's recommendation, since he wanted to see all of the preserved areas of white reed matting in sequence across the square, if possible. ;=l f99 =l f121 ;=l f33 ;=l f122 f 162 ds This is the white reed matting layer found within f137 at the bottom of the k12 east baulk. We (incorrectly) continued excavating f137 around and below it, instead of making it a new feature for the (presumed) floor surfaces associated with the white layers. f 137 nd We incorrectly excavated this feature this season. Although we discovered f162, a layer of white reed material, within it, we did not immediately stop digging and create a new feature for the (presumed) floor surfaces associated with the white layer. Therefore, any f137 q-lots below the elevation of f162 should properly be considered part of a separate feature, the floor surfaces of the pathway between the platform and the underground structure. .rd N712 v 35 N gk2 k2 before backfill removal 35a m W gk2 k2 before backfill removal 36 NW gk3 k3 before backfill removal 37 N gk4 k4 before backfill removal 38 N gk13 k13 before backfill removal 39 N gk12 k12 before backfill removal 40 NE gk1 k1 before backfill removal 41 NE gk11 k11 before backfill removal 42 O gk1 ga4 a4 before backfill removal 42a m S gk1 ga4 a4 before backfill removal .rd N713 43 O gk12 gf43,79 gi27 metal in wadi wash 43a w W gk12 gf43,79,88,89 gi27 metal in wadi wash, context .rd N714 44 N gk1,2,11,100 gf34,80,81,82 ga4,8,9 3 pits in k1 and k100 44a m W gk1,2,100 gf34,81,80 ga8 44b c N gk1,100 gf34,80,82 ga9 45 OE gk4 ga7 gf48 burial 45a w E gk4 ga7 gf48 46 O gk2 gf31,32,33 second brick layer under f31 top layer .rd N715 47 W gk2,3,4,12,13 gf31,32,33,42,88,89 wall in k12 and k2 47a t NE gk2 gf31,32,33,14,103,2,6,29 48 N gk2 gf2,6,14,29,33,103,104 line of pseudo-bricks - bin? 48a w NE gk2 gf2,6,14,29,31,33,103,104 49 NE gk100,1 gf81,82,83,80,34 ga8,9 49a t N gk1,100 gf82,85,80,83 .rd N716 50 SE gk3 gf91 gi35 white material and bitumen-coated brick 50a w E gk3 gf91 gi35 context .rd N717 51 OW gf81,80,34,84 gk1,100 ga8 pit section 52 N gf2,6,14,29,33,103,104 gk2 53 N gf92,91 gk3 53a w E gf91,92 gk3 54 N gk3 gf92 ga10 .rd N719 55 N gk1,100 ga9 gf34,80,82,83,85,86,87 east half of k100 .rd N720 56 O ga10 gk3 gf91,93,96 gi39,40,41,42,43,44,45,46 56a m O ga10 gk3 gi39,40,41,42,43,44,45,46 burial with grid 56b m N ga10 gk3 gi39,40,41,42,43,44,45,46 context 56c w N ga10 gk3 gi39,40,41,42,43,44,45,46 context .rd N721 57 O gk1 ga8 gf95,84,81 pit with bone 58 N gk100 gf99 white floor 58a c N gk100 gf99 white floor .rd N722 59 N gk1,100 gf34,97 white surface 59a c E gk100 gf97 cracks in wall .ri dc 59b m E gk1,100 ga4 gf31,97 cracks in pit .rd N723 60 N gk100 gf97 white floor .ri jl 61 S gi26 gk3 gf91 taken on N710 61a w E gi26 gk3 gf91 context, taken on N710 61b w O gi26 gk3 gf91 context, taken on N710 .rd N724 62 w O gk1,100 gf34,97 ga8 u-photo, shows white line of f149 63 N gk1 gf99,149 white layers in center .rd N726 64 W gk1,2,11,12,100 ga8,4,9 gf34,81,97,99,100 64a t W gk1,100 ga4,9 gf97,99,100,149,101 64b t W gf1,100 ga4,9 gf81,97,99,100,101 64c t O gk100 gf101,97,100 ga4 65 O gk100 gk97,100,101,73 ga4 section 65a OW gk100 gf97,100,101,73 ga4 .ri dc .rd N727 66 W gf106 gk100 ga4 white phytolith inserts .rd N728 67 S gk100 ga4 gf106,102,101,100,73 section of pit a4 67a m W gk100 gf101,102,106,100 south half of section 67b m W gk100 gf100,101,102,106 north half of section .ri jl 68 E gk3 gf20,91,105,125,126,128,129,130 tannur-like accumulation 68a t E gk3 gf91,105,125,126,129 68b c ON gk3 gf91,105,129 closeup .rd N731 69 W gk2 gf113,112 ga8 69a w OW gk1,2 ga8 gf113,112,110,98,109 70 O gk2 gf104,33 gi77 cooking installation 70a w O gk2 gf104,103,33 gi77 dirty picture - retake .rd N802 71 OW ga8 gk1,2 gf81,95,98,99,109,110,112,113 u-photo 71a m OS ga8 gk1,2 gf81,95,98,99,109,110,112,113 u-photo 72 ON gk2 ga8 gi77 gf14,33,103,104,116,117,118,120,122 .rd N805 73 N gf123,124,133,136 gk11 red versus gray 73a E gf123,124,133,131 gk11 red versus gray .rd N806 74 S gk11,12 gf124,127,134,131,135,133,45 ga5 south baulk, k11 .rd N807 75 E gk11 ga5 gf45,124,131,133,134,143,153 east baulk of k11 with drawing string 76 OW gk3,2,12,13 ga11 gf32,91,130,132,141,142,150,152 cooking installation .rd N810 77 NE gk11,12,1 ga5 gf45,99,124,127,134,135,133,143,153 daily 78 NW gk3,2,12 gf14,20,31,32,33,91,104,129,130,132,141 ga11,8 daily .rd N811 79 NW gk2,3,12 gf14,31,32,33,91,20,104,129,130,132,141 ga11 80 NE gk1,11,12,89 gf135,99,133,124,153,45,134,143,136 ga5 daily 80a t E gk1 gf45,124,134,143,153 ga5 stones connecting a5 to A12 .rd N812 81 E gk11,12,89 gf42,43,139,141,134,45,124,153,143,133,99 ga5 daily 82 E gk11,89,1 gf45,99,124,133,134,136,139,143,153 ga5 daily 83 N gk11,89 gf134,139,140,143,145,158,159 daily of k89 .rd N813 84 E gk12,11,1,89 gf42,43,45,99,124,133,134,139,141,143,145,153 ga5 85 N gk12,13,2,3,11,1 gf14,20,31,33,42,43,88,89,99,129,137,141,142 ga8 86 ON gk89,1 gf134,139,140,143,145,158,159 daily 87 ON gk89 gf140,145,158,159 location of burlap 87a c N gk89 gf140 detail of burlap impression .rd N814 88 ON gk1 gf82,99 ga9,4 daily 89 E gk11,1,89 gf45,49,124,133,134,143,145 daily 90 W gk12,13 gf42,43,88,89,142,144,151 daily 91 N gk2,3,12,13 ga11 gf20,14,31,32,33,88,89,128,129,132,142 daily 92 ON gk89,11,1 ga9 gf99,143,145,146 .rd N816 93 W gk100 gf106,101,56 ga4 taken on N729 .rd N817 94 E gk11,1,89 gf45,99,124,133,134,137,141,143,145,149,153 95 N gk1 ga9 gf147,99 daily 96 W gk12,13 gf42,43,88,89,142,144,150,151,152 daily
