It shows the western end of A12 in the foreground. The main focus for k11 (and k1) is to understand the relationship between the api (A12) and the platform (area X), as well as between A14 and the wall of palace AP. v97a is a view looking diagonally across the locus to the northeast, to better show its lower, southern part (which is partly obscured in the main view by the southern baulk of the locus). v 97a go NE gk 1,11,12,89 ga 8,9,5 gf 99,149,133,124,153,45,134,143,145 ph This is a diagonal view across the locus to show the southern part, which is obscured by the southern baulk in the main view. v 98 go N gk 89,11,1 gf 99,145,158,159,146,145 ph This is the final photo of k89. k89 was originally opened to explore the relationship between A14 and the southern wall of the palace AP. Most of the material that we removed from this locus this season was modern, deposited over the course of excagation in AP and A12 in previous seasons (a major dirt-remogal path originally led through this area). v 99 go N gk 1,2,11,12 ga 5,8,9 gf 160,33,137,161,157,84,149,99,133,124,134,45,153,143,147,85,161 ph This is the final photo of k1, showing k11 in the foreground. It does not show a4, the large pit on the north edge of k1; this is shown in v108; The main focus of k1 (and k11) is to explore the relationship between the api (A12) and the platform (area X). v 100 go N gk 1,2,3,11,12,13 ga 5,8,11,12 gf 91,129,20,130,132,152,36,42,88,89,155,156,43,137,162,31,32,33,104,99,133,124,134,45 ph This is the final view of k12, showing the other loci around it. In the northwest corner of the locus is the small structure a11. This is shown better in v104. v 101 go N gk 11,12,13,2,3 ga 8,12,11 gf 132,130,20,152,88,155,156,89,42,43,137,162,32,31,33,14,104,160,157,84,133 ph This is the final photo of k2. k12 is in the foreground. In the southwest corner of the locus is the small structure a11. This is better shown in v104. In the northeast corner of the locus is the layers of white laminations, f160. This is better shown in f105. v 102 go N gk 2,3,12,13 ga 11 gf 36,152,91,105,129,130,132,20,31,32,14,89,155,156,42,48,43 ph This is the final photo of k13. All that we did this season was remove the remaining topsoil in the southwest corner and remove the northern and eastern baulks. In the northeast is part of the structure a11, better shown in v104. v 103 go E gk 2,3,12,13 ga 11 gf 91,105,129,20,130,132,36,152,42,43,88,89,155,156,32,33,31 ph This is the final photo of k3. v103a looks over the entire locus to the south, better showing its relationship to k13 and showing the western edge of the locus, which isn't visible in this view. The small structure a11, in the southeast corner of the locus, is better shown in v104. v 103a go S gk 3,12,13 ga 11 gf 36,152,43,42,155,156,88,20,129,130,132,91,105 ph This view looks southward, showing all of k3, including the western edge (which isn't visible in the main view). v 104 go NE gk 1,2,3,11,12,13 ga 8,9,11,12 gf 99,161,133,137,42,43,89,88,155,156,32,31,33,14,104,160,152,36,129,20,132,130,105,91 ph This is the final photo of the small structure, a11. We still don't know what the purpose of a11 was. It is apparently a small central platform with a clay object, perhaps a hearth, on it (f132), surrounded on at least three sides by a clay brick wall. Hopefully, future excagations will clarify its purpose. v 105 go OE gk 1,2 ga 4,8 gf 33,160,161,84,99,101 ph This final photo is a closeup of the while layers in the northwest of k1 (f161)/the northeast of k2 (f160). Although it is difficult to see any trace of the white in this photo, each of the layers of soil in this mass had a layer of white material on it. Presumably, the white is still preserved in the areas still covered by soil. We still don't know for certain what the cause of the white layers was, but gb has hypothesized that they are the remains of a series of reed mats associated with the platform area X. v 106a go N ;gr w gk 1 ga 4,8 gf 84,99,101,149 ph This view is a view of the strange cluster of white, plaster-like material (f149) in the middle of the locus. This subview was made into a template because it shows the context of f149 much better than the main view does. v 106 go O gk 1 gf 91,149 ph This view is a closeup of the strange white plaster-like cluster (f149) in the middle of k1. The subview, v106a, gives a better overall perspective, hence a template was also made for it. v 107 go O gk 1 ga 9 gf 99,161,85,147 ph This view is a closeup of layers of white striated materials (f161) in the northeast corner of k1. We are not yet certain as to the cause of these layers, but gb has hypothesized that they are the remains of reed matting used in conjunction with the platfom (area X) below this elevation.
