Khdr and Hamza assigned as pickmen for a new team of 7 whose primary function will be to remove baulks. Backfilled their two former positions with other high-performing workmen. Khdr and Fawaz then taken by gb for higher priority work in A18. -sg gb, fab, and mkb discussed with jw and jo the stratigraphic implications of what we see in the E baulks of k15 and k25 and the N baulk of k15. Feature 207, seen in the E baulk of k15 is of particular interest since it is seen in k14 (as f245) and will, with the removal of the N baulk of k15, be seen in k5. It will be important to analyze the sherds from these features to see what part of the boundary between Phase 3 and Phase 4 they occupy. jw hypothesizes that it should be Ph 3 because the floors in k14 which capped it were Phase 3 and the pit in the NW corner of k14 which cut the accumulation f244 (which covered f245) was Ph 4. -sy bp installed new control points deep into locus k23. Survey monument b31 loosened and removed. Marker m3452/m3464 loosened and removed. k 25 dy Began to remove the N baulk., In the process we are making a ramp which rises from E to the surface in the W to facilitate dirt removal in successive excavtions of k14, k13, k12, k23, and k22 baulks. k 5 dy We are now treating k5 and the N baulk of k15 as a single unit. Features will be designated under k5 and any equivalence with corresponding features in k15 will be noted. At the end of the day we reached the reddish accumulation, f252, equivalent to f207 in k15, and we will excavate it from south to north tomorrow. q 627 df p nr This lot arose out of a project to excavate a baulk in a triangular shape to form a wheelbarrow ramp for dirt removal from loci further to the east. Pottery from features f182 and f186 were inadvertently mixed in the process. k 14 dy continued to excavate brown accumulation, f244, now seemingly contained to the northern two-thirds of the locus by accumulation, f245. In the NW corner, we began to see a stone and sherd surface, f253. sg Explore the relationship between f244, and f253 with small picks tomorrow. k 23 dy beginning to see a clear differentiation in accumulations in k25. In the SE corner, f251, strong brown in color, and granular texture, contrasts with f250 in the other parts of the locus, which shows signs of interaction of soil with water - hard crusty surfaces with soft pockets of fine soil. f 251 df a ds Reddish accumulation aroung SE quarter of locus k23. It is damp, strong brown in color, and has a granular texture. No specific signs of bricks yet, but the color suggests the possiblity. Clearly differentiated from f250, the accumulation in the other parts of the locus, which surrounds large stones and contains a large number of disorganized pebbles and stones. f 252 df a ds Reddish accumulation under f224 in k5. Feature 224 was an eroded subfloor, which should have served to seal this accumulation. It is equivalent to f207, which was found in k15 and positively linked throuth the excavation of the N baulk of k14. f 253 df fb ds Surface of sherds and stones in the NW quadrant of k14. Sealed by a relatively thick brownish accumulation, f244, which has yielded several seal impressions.
