They encompass elevations from 8213cm for an accumulation, f181 in k13, which yielded 200 clay oblong objects to 8109cm for a sherd and pebble floor, f253 in k14. All of these strata are above the pebble and sherd surface, f230, in k24, elevation 8048. The sherds from f181 and the sherds from the living accumulation, f229, that covered f230, were analyzed. Both extremes were evaluated as belonging to Phase 3. To guide the excavation strategy in the next few weeks we need to know the function of the intermediate floors and accompanying living accumulations in this stratigraphic column. What follows is a list of individual features and the special characteristics that merit an analysis of the pottery within. f 216 df fb ns The likely southern extension of a series of pise floor surfaces, f231, in k4 which contained an imbedded hearth, f249. This feature is the highest of the discernable floors in k4 and was clearly defined as a 200cm square patch extending south from the middle of the south baulk. Other than one imbedded grindstone, there was no indication of function. Lots q562, q566, and q569 should be analyzed from this feature. f 238 df aa ds This living accumulation covers floor f239 and contains 3 restorable jars, i137, i138, and i139. ns Two of the three jars were burned, as was a stone nearby, indicating that food preparation was one of the functions of this space. Lot q563 should be analyzed from this feature. f 239 df fb ds This floor in k14 was capped by living accumulation, f238, and was the surface upon which the 3 jars rested. ns There were no sherds imbedded in this floor to contribute to pottery analysis. f 241 df fb ds This floor in k14 contained an imbedded ring of fist-sized stones, f240, whose function is unknown. ns This feature is an intermediate floor with some indicia of specialized activity. Lot q570 should be analyzed from this feature. f 243 df fb ds This floor in locus k14, under accumulation f205 and similar to f241, was traced to all parts of the locus. ns This feature is an intermediate-level floor with imbedded pottery. Lot q575 should be analyzed from this feature. f 244 df a ds This accumulation was below floor, f241, in k14 and contained several seal impressions as well as a relatively large amount of pottery. ns This accumulation was contained on the south by a reddish accumulation, f245, which may be the material from a melted palace wall. It is below a series of pise floors and above a stone and sherd floor which extends throughout the entire locus. Why the seal impressions and other artifacts were in this accumlation is important to know and the pottery analysis may give some clue. Lots q579, q586, q592, q595, q599, q601, q608, q612, q618, and q628 should be analyzed from this feature. f 254 df aa ds This is the living accumulation above a pebble and sherd floor, f253, that extends throughout most of the locus. ns It is our practice to consider living accumulations to be the subject of a pottery analysis, Lots q630 and q645 should be analyzed from this feature and may help discern whether f244 was a subfloor, fill, or accumulation.
