This ashy layer was clear since we began to excavate the wadi bed f41 at a higher elevation. At that point it appeared that f100 laid on top of the lowermost end of f41. tc ov f41 tc co f129 f 119 df a ds A red layer in the southern half of k3. It is a compacted red layer with white patina, which has a fine consistency. When it was first discovered, it was a clear arcing line from the eastern baulk to the western baulk. At first it seemed as if it was a wall, although the consistency of the matrix appeared to be too fine to be brick, and there were no brick or mortar lines to guide us. f119 is the same level as the burial a5 and kiln a4, although the burial is certainly intrusive and is dated to the Khabur period by the Khabur vessel found within it. When this red layer was excavated, there was a stone wall beneath it, although it does not completely match its borders. f 120 df a ds grey accumulation in the eastern half of k3. This feature is north of f119, and is the feature into which burial a5 is cut. It is of medium hardness and had a lot of sherds and some pieces of baked brick. It looks similar to the features above it, although it may have a lower ratio of sherds. f 121 df ki ds pit kiln in k3, circular with a gray-green burnt kiln wall of only about 3cm. It has a sloping bottom, but is only about 30 cm deep. This is probably a pit kiln, but part of the reason for defining it as such is that there was so much kiln waste found nearby. The fill did not contain any kiln waste. tc co f143 tc cu f144 f 122 df fi ds fill of f121 in k3. It is a light grey fill with a large number of pottery sherds. f 129 df a ds mixed accumulation in the western third of k3. It is a mixed red and grey accumulation which continued until the section made for the pit kiln and the western baulk of k3. It is below ashy layer f100. f 135 df bu ds adult burial in k3. f 140 df a ds ashy layer which begins at the western edge of k3 and continues eastward below red wall f156. This ashy layer was very homogenous and powdery in consistency, with very little amount of sherds. It is not the same depth throughout, but becomes thicker in the eastern end. Once f156 was excavated, f140 did not continue completely underneath f156, but only halfway. This ashy layer could signify a destruction. This layer covers f141 which is an accumulation almost above floor f156. This suggests that wall f156 might be a fallen wall of the same destruction phase. f 141 df aa ds accumulation above floor f146, in the western end of k3. This is a loose grey accumulation above the floor. f 143 df a ds accumulation below f121 in k3, the wall of the pit kiln. Dark grey accumulation, which didn't appear to have a lot of sherds or other material. It matches the lower boundaries of f121, and so is interpreted as a fill or levelling to support the kiln. f 144 df a ds hard red accumulation in k3, below f143. It is a pure red accumulation, into which the pit kiln was dug, and levelling fill f143 was laid. This feature was not much larger than the dimensions of the kiln. f 154 df a ds This feature is in the central part of k3, from the north baulk to f119. It is a hard red accumulation mixed with grey. It is a shallow feature as soon after excavation began, we found the western face of wall f156. tc co f156
