It appears that the architecture was always used for domestic outdoor activities such as food prepartation. The main view looks north from the south baulk to the direction of increasing depth of excavation as we attempted to trace the southward extent of Phase 2 and Phase 3 architecture found in earlier excagations which fully exposed loci 3 and 4. v167 shows the earliest feature, the top of a platform, f344, which may be either late Phase 3 or early Phase 4. A brick wall, f342, was built atop that and accumulations f341 and 343 accreted on either side. v167b is a closeup of the platform and the wall. v167b is a wide view from the north that shows the rise in elevation of the Phase 4 material in k5 to the south. v 168 ph a floor surface and an associated unused tannur along the middle of the west baulk were one of the few architectural features excagated in k5 during MZ14. The design of the tannur, f333, which was unused, is unusual in that it was apparently sunk into an associated floor, f336, it has no bottom and it is decorated with fluting. v168a and v168b are tight and closeup shots of the tannur body and its design. v 169 ph this is a photograph to locate the last excagated features of k13, which were Phase 5 Khabur, with respect to the Phases 4, 3 and 2 architecture found to the west in k3, k93 and A12. v169 shows kilns a30 and a31, pits a32 and a33, and accumulation f331 in which the kilns sit, with palace walls and floors in the background. v 170 ph pit kilns a30 and a31 both have fire chambers that are offset from the main chamber were the pottery is stacked to be baked. There is a brick baffle whose purpose is to deflect the heated air to the pottery. This photograph shows these parts of kiln, a31. v158 shows the relationship between the main body of the kiln (ash layer, f347, floor, f359, and floor accumulation, f349), the bricks, f361, and the cut for the fire chamber, f368. v170a shows the brick heat deflector, which shows evidence of charring. v170b shows the fire chamber, which in this kiln is a horizontal trench which is located low and to the north of the main chamber.
