.bk A15 .fl N728ms.j .fd daily journal N728 .ed N728 .ei ms .rd N728 .ri ms -dy meeting with gb, fab, mkb, jo, jw, ms. Continue with trench in k15 but also dig across in levels which will have different feature numbers. Continue removing kiln waste in k13, k14. Keep looking for transition with ph5, ph4 and ph3. Discussion about phases. k5 a34 is ph3, k15 is ph4 and k14 and k13 is currently ph5 material coming down right onto ph3, most likely. Primary concern is still how the kiln waste and kilns were cut, into what were they cut and where are the relationships now. We are getting close to this area now so are paying particular attention in k14 and k13. k 5 dy Came down in a f390 at sw corner of locus. This is to the w of pit f394 and has been cut both by this and plant roots. There may be bricks in some portion but it is very difficult to understand the connection with other parts of the locus. There seems to be a pit under f390 which is seen in section of the pit and we will remove f390 and define pit boundaries tomorrow. We also came down in a f435 to the w of pise f423. The differentiation is very clear between f435, f423 and also f422, but the overall connection with the rest of the area is unclear. We will backfill and cover a34 to protect it while we come down to same level in k15. mkb will look especially at pottery lots from f411 the dirt in this aggregate. k 15 dy continued trench f426 but also began digging in square. We named the upper level of accumulation f439. We will give each level we go do a different feature number until features become apparent. We removed the first 20cm of k15. k 14 dy cleaned and scraped well f433 the red bricky material to the south of the bin. This may or may not be a phase 3 wall cut by the kiln bin or associated material. Or it may still be part of the bin. Kiln waste is still seen in section of f430 along with a small portion of f433. We started cleaning out the kiln waste in f430 to delineate the brown material as much as possible. We also name f438 as the accumultion under the clay bin, f155. Still trying to understand how the kilns and associated material cut and connect with the ph3 material. k 13 dy f420 kiln waste seems to be petering out in much of the locus. f420 is still extant in the n part of the locus and it follows the cut of f416 which is seen in section. This is the same kiln fill but seems to cut the brown layer which is now appearing and may indicate the end of the fill. f442 is this level. The color is a rich brown with bricks or bricky material also seen when it is scraped. There are no kiln inclusions. f442 is starting to appear throughout although there is also a pocket if f420 to the s area of the locus. We also went down in the areas between the two kiln, a30 and a31. This is f417 and also seems to come down on f442. This may indicate that these two kilns were the original emplacements and were built up over time. f442 may not necessarily be ph3 but perhaps ph4 or the bottom material associated with the kilns. We will have a better idea as f420 is completely removed. Will take photos in the morning. Uncovered what may have been a kiln, f440, but we are at the bottom and have removed all the fill, f441. f 438 df a ds accumulation under f155, clay bin of MZ14 in k14. f 439 df a ds arbitrary feature number assigned to layer under f407 in k15. No particular attributes of this feature. P1 N728 f 440 df pt-c ds pit or possible bottom of kiln in k14. Too incomplete to tell if kiln. Part of kiln waste associated with a30 and a31. Contains few inclusions but possibly related to extensive kiln waste in section. tc in f442 f 441 df fi ds pit fill associated with pit f440. Possible kiln but incomplete. Few inclusions. tc si f440 P1 N728 f 442 df a ds brown accumulation under kiln waste, f420 of k13 and k14. May be bottom of kiln or top of next phase.
