.bk A15 .fl N813jw.j .fd daily journal for N813 .ri jw .rd N813 .ed N813 .ei jw -wk Muhammad Kher and Aldare reported for work from A10. Safwan gave notice that this will be his last day of work. -dy we began to systematically remove measured and numbered pieces of the possible plaster face of what we beleive to be a fallen wall f489 in k2. There, we also continued to remove accumulation f501 to the south of the brick wall face f489. In k3 we continued to clear the earlier floors of recent debris f510. We continued to excavate accumulation f486 from room a36 in k14 and clear the accumulation f491 in k15 which we hypothesize overlays jars similar to those of a34 in k5. In k12 we removed wall f42 and contined to remove the north baulk. gg photographed the southern part of the area with a camera attached to an overhead wire. k 2 dy Stef cleaned the accumulations around the fallen wall f489. bm strung the grid, we relayed the corners, and photographed it from above. We finished excavating a shallow trench to the east of f489, observing no traces of the plaster face seen on the north, west and south sides. sb suggested that we excavate the eastern bank of 33 cm square segments (489.31 to 489.39) from east to west looking for traces of the plaster. The only traces of plaster were found at the bottom of segments 489.38 and 489.39. Yestafad continued to remove f501 from south to north. He found a horizontal line of plaster at the southern edge of f489, clearly separating this feature from the accumulation below, f511. ns It appears now more clearly that f489 (composed of reddish bricks 20cm by 20cm by 8cm) stood with the plaster face oriented vertically, then fell atop the uneaven horizontal surface accumulation, f511. sg on N814 we will begin to remove the next bank of sectors to the west. If we find plaster, we will remove each segment individually in one piece, using plaster to stabilize it for transport to the conservation lab. k 3 dy Aldare removed debris f510 atop what appears to be a northern extension of the possible Phase 2 surface f505. ns mkb and jo analyzed pottery from f502 in k3. They found a mix of Nuzi, Khabur, and Simple Ware sherds. This can be explained as a result of the intrusion of deep Phase 6 and Phase 5 pits into Phase 2 structures which are to the north and east of f502. k 15 ns mkb and jo are analyzing sherds from f491. In one q-lot, q1115, they noticed a mix of Phase 4 and Phase 2 sherds. We believe that this occurred as a result of the excavation of a west to east trench alongside wall f433, to inspect a possible plaster face on it southern side. The trench is about a meter deep and the lot contained sherds from throughout. We will modify our strategy to excavate horizontal slices within the trench, each with its own q-lot, now that we know that we are transitioning phases. dy Mizar continued to excavate an exploratory trench along the northern edge, while Ramadan concentrated on excavating from the top down of accumulation f491, which covers the northern two-thirds of the locus. We did not see any evidence that the line of reddish accumulation extended past the limits observed at the end of yesterday. gg took an overhead photograph of this locus supplemented by features in k4, k5 and k14 to show the patches of red material scattered with gray accumulations. It is hoped that they may guide our excavations in search of Phase 2 architecture. Item 273 consists pieces of a large shallow bowl of unusual design. k 14 dy Muhammad Kher is now excavating f486, which continues to yield an unusually rich group of artifacts. jw noticed conical cup sherds and as well as other pieces of delicately made pottery typical of Phase 2. Item 274 was a large piece of bronze. There were several patches of white material characteristic of decayed vegetation. One curiosity was a line of three small circular brownish deposits which look like post holes. sg we will continue to excavate slowly, searching for a floor, which we expect to be part of Phase 2. k 12 dy Saud and Muhammad continued to remove the east baulk. Saud carefully excavated the wall f42, on the south side, exposing more of the pebble and sherd floor f511 in the SE corner (first seen in MZ14). ns despite the removal of f42, we cannot positively state that it was a later Phase 5d retaining wall, although it is the most likely explanation since it is composed of bricks different from those of N-S wall f512 to the east and the associated E-W stub wall f113 to the north, which are in turn cleary associated with the threshold f92 and its accompanying door socket. f 42 df w ds mudbrick wall in SE corner of k12 P1 N813 f 510 df a ds debris and accumulation north of pebble street f490 and east of Phase 2 floor f505 in the SE corner of k3. Most is material that has been carried in by wind or dropped by those transporting excavated spoils upon surfaces exposed in MZ14. f 511 df pb ds pebble and sherd floor in the SE corner of k12. It appears to have been a working surface, as it contained several querns. It was bounded to the north by walls f43 and f513 and by threshold f92 and on the east by wall f512. It is unclear whether it was open or roofed, although there was a door associated with the threshold which opened inward to the south. f 512 df w ds mudbrick wall running N-S to the east of wall f42 in the east baulk of k12. Only two courses of vertically laid bricks can be seen from above, although more be be in A17k2 immediately to the east. Joins/abuts E-W wall f513. f 513 df w ds mudbrick wall running E-W in the SE quadrant of k12. Joins/abuts wall f512 and forms a doorway along with threshold f92 and wall f43 to the west.
