.bk A15 .fl N819jw.j .fd daily journal for N819 .ri jw .rd N819 .ed N819 .ei jw -wk two new workmen reported for duty. Muhammad Hair excused at 0600 due to illness. -dy this was a busy day in all loci except k1, k11 and k12. We cleaned for an important series of photographs that documented the completion of most of the excavation in k15, k14, and k13. Also we took overhead photos by wire of the wall f214 to be used in an experiment to draw directly from a photograph registered to the grid with AutoCAD using Freehand. We removed a number of additional jars of the a34 collection in k5. We reached the floor f534 in k14 and we feel certain that, along with walls f457, f483, and f520 they define a room a36 that was in use in either Phase 3 or Phase 2 or both. We began to remove wall f214 in k4 and hope to finish it tomorrow. In k3 we removed more of the debris surrounding the burial a37. We took overhead photos of the remains i295 superimposed on a provenience square so that it can be drawn later using Freehand. In k2 we finished removing the plaster coating i479 on the fallen wall face f489 and began excavating the accumulation f532 below, which is probably the debris from brickwork behind the face. We also found what may be a floor f535 which goes with wall f528 and wall f536 (a38). jw took a series of elevations to assist in anticipating the levels of floors in various phases of architicture that we are excavating. -sg ms and jw met several times during the day with gb and mkb to plan the work schedule for N820. We will stop and clean the room a36 in k14 for final photographs. In k5, it appears that we may have reached the floor in the room that contained the collection of jars a34. We will continue to excavate carefully there and anticipate finishing that tomorrow. In k2 we will finish removing the accumulation that was below the fallen wall f489 and will seek to define the limits of the room a38 whose east and south wall faces are seen in the SE corner of the locus. In the SW corner of the locus there is a line of stones f537 that were once thought to be reused. Now, they appear to be in line with an E-W line of plaster coating wall f536 that is perpendicular to wall f536 along the eastern edge of the locus. Now that the material f533 contained by platform f214 has been removed, we will systematically remove f214, starting from the north and working south, then from the east and working west. We will put all available resources on this to finish and clear to the next organized surface beneath by the end of the day. As resources permit we may detail individuals to A17 to finish removing the north and south baulks there. k 5 dy Mizar and Yestafad continued to carefully remove the jars, bowls and cups that comprise a34. At the end of the day they reached what may be a floor surface, as yet undesignated. A several baked bricks and other detrious were found interspersed with the ceramic vessels. Many small vessels were complete, although some were broken. k 14 dy Saud, Muhammad Kher, and Stef finished excavating the room a36, having reached a floor, f534. The floor is made up of several elements, including a granular white clay over most of the area, with stones, sherds and baked brick along the western and southern edges. k 2 dy Yestafad, Stef, and bm finished removing the last row of plaster i279 which defined the underside of the fallen wall face f489. Then, Ibrahim and Khalid began to remove the accumulation f532 under f489. It was red, granular, and very clean. gb believes that it is most likely brickmelt from under and behind the portion of N-S wall f528 which fell to the west. Sultan continued to excavate accumulation f517 in the vicinity of wall f528. It became clear that it is contained to the south by an E-W wall f536 with a white plaster face. gb noted that an E-W line of stones f537 which he had assumed were Phase 3 and re-used for another purpose were indeed in line with f536. jw noticed that there seemed to be traces of white plaster on the north face of one of them. From this evidence, we can hypothesize that f536 and f537 are components of the same wall that bounds a Phase 2 room a38. Near the end of the day, Sultan found evidence of a granular floor f535 that may be associated with a38. It is at about the same elevation as the upper tread of a step that rises from the formal courtyard towards k2. k 3 dy Khalid finished excavating the burial a37. We are trying to decide whether or not to leave it in place for next year due to the fact that it is overlaid by a large stone which will be difficult to remove in the last days of this season, considering all the other things that must be done. k 4 dy the platform f214 was photographed in preparation for drawing and removal on N820. Ibrahim probed accumulation f532 from north to south looking for evidence for its foundation, but found none. Ju'an began to excavate the material f533 within the platform. The top was hard-packed and had the shape of a shallow dish, but there was no sign of burning. f 530 df a ;ds f 531 df a ;ds f 532 df a ;ds f 533 df a ;ds f 534 df fb ;ds f 535 df fb ;ds f 536 df w ;ds ;f 537 ;df pb ;ds
