This was only a small area and was subsumed into accumulation f372. f414 was located where the kiln fill seemed to be cut by the clay bin f155. f 415 df fi ds fill of pit mostly seen in section in north baulk of k13. Some of this was dug at the NW corner of kiln waste, f373. It was ashy gray in color and contained a great deal of sherds and stones. Not very large, and maybe be a single deposit rather than used over time. f 416 df pt ds cut seen first in the east section of k13. It continues into current deposition, f373. It is similar to f373 but there are less inclusions and those are not as large. Exact depostion sequence is unclear. fab suggested it may be another clay bin like f155, but this is unlikely. It is subsumed by f420 when the kiln waste is given a new number which includes f373 and f416. f 417 df bf ds red layer around one of the kilns in k13, a30, appears under f373, kiln waste. At first we thought this was part of kiln waste but after further examination we believe it may be melted brick. Bricks can also be seen in section in the kiln and this has turned out to be part of a probable ph 2 wall, f483. This feature may be the topmost portion of the wall, but was too melted to differentiate bricks fully. This kiln seems to cut the wall. f 418 df a ds accumulation to the west of wall f413 in k5, under a 397. It is unclear what is going on here. There seems to be red bricky material but no real articulated bricks. Possible brickfall from f413. Covers a f422. f 419 df pa ds lining inside of kiln a30. Seems to be a volcanic rock lining on There is also bricky matter but not bricks. This also burnt well from the heat of the kiln tc bo f429 f 420 df a ds this feature was declared because it was thought to be a gray ashy area below the kiln fill, f373 but it became apparent that this is the same material. We chose to call the entire feature 420 at this point. This kiln waste can be considered the original waste from the first kilns. It is also the kiln waste that cuts into the original material below. It is full of inclusions, Habur pottery, chunks of burnt material and kiln waste. f373 overlays f420. f 421 df pa ds vitrified clay lining of south kiln, a31. There also seems to be a packing of bricks, perhaps not original to the kiln but built up as the waste grew. tc bo f428 f 422 df a ds accumulation west of wall f413 in k5. Probably late phase 3 accumulation. Also abuts f423 which seems to be a pise wall. f422 is bricky but may just be brickfall or brickmelt from wall f413. This only covers a small area. tc ab f413 tc ab f423 f 423 df w ds possible pise wall. To the east is probable brickfall, f422, and accumulation from wall f413. To the south the connection with any surroundings is unclear and will not be investigated this season. tc ab f435 f 424 df fi ds fill of pit f425 on the north edge of k15. This is an ashy fill and is most likely an early phase 4 pit. It is in the area where pits have been consistently. tc si f412 f 425 df pt ds same as f412. f 426 df tr ds trench along the eastern edge of k15, running NS. Dug in order to give a section of what was in k15 primarily to aid in establishing a strategy to come down quickly in this locus. f 427 df a ds ashy lens with unclear boundaries. Runs into a f417 and is still part of the waste associated with the kilns, but with less inclusions. f 428 df pt ds cut for southern kiln in k14, a31. f 429 df pt ds cut for northern kiln in k13, a30. f 430 df pc ds sherd layer seen in section and possibly part of a layer laid down in the clay bin, f155. The bin was originally excavated in MZ14. This is part of the earlier kiln deposition. f 433 df w ds this was originally thought to be part of the red bricky packing of f155, the clay bin, but now is thought to be part of wall, f457 which was cut by the clay bin. This is the highest remaining portion of the wall which is probably early phase 4. tc ab f457
