Specifically, he is looking at what animals were present and how they were used during different phases. Included in this is a search for evidence of when the horse appeared at at Mozan, the bones of which were found in lots associated with these features (which were not described in MZ14 or MZ16.) mkb is analyzing the pottery from these features to determine their phase. Also, jw described a fragment of a zoomorphic vessel. Finally lr, in her comprehensive review of skeletal remains found one lot, previously thought to contain human bones, consisted entirely of animal bones. It will be re-labeled and returned to proper storage. f 214 df pf ds This feature, discovered during the MZ14 excavation season, consisted of a U-shaped containment of large stones, laid in the form of three walls (foundations?), but not bonded with mortar in k3. The interior consisted of a shallow hemispherical basin, made of either packed clay or pise. It was removed as one feature despite its having several components, including the aforementioned stones and basin, as well as some fill underneath. As it turns out, it was built over an earlier walled room, which in turn was built using some components of a large reception room of the Phase 2 palace. ns Because of similar elevations and construction methods to a building foundation in A9k9, the stones and basin of the platform were assigned to Phase 4, while some of the underlying walls were assigned to Phase 3. ;I1 4 f 426 df a ds Accumulation in an approximately 75cm wide N-S exploratory trench dug along the east baulk of k15, whose purpose is to guide the excavation of the rest of the locus. ns Based upon elevation, and the lack of either Khabur painted sherds (Ph5) or sherds from string-cut bases or obvious Ph2 or 3 sherds, this feature was assigned to Phase 4. ;I1 4 q 315.1 df fg ds Fragment of a zoomorphic clay object with the face of an animal, probably a cat, on one outside edge. In addition, there are two punched incisions on a bottom corner below and to the left of the face as viewed head-on. nr Originally included in a pottery lot (A15q 315-p) from MZ12, but recognized as an item by mkb and forwarded for proper analysis. nm Measurements are of the extant fragment. lg 3.5 w1 2.5 ht 2.5 c# 2.5YR8/2 co pale yellow P99 To drafting and photography prior to storage at Mozan. i 210 df a-bone nr Group of bones orginally thought to have been human, but determined by lR to be from an animal. Being re-assigned the number of the accompanying q-lot, A15q684 q 648 df b ds Animial bones, now identified as those of a pig by paleozoololgist H-P Uerqmann, assigned to this lot for ease of processing, storage, and reduction of confusion over initial ID as human bones.
