The intention is to investigate the proportions of the grain sizes in this deposit in the hope that a geologist can explain the extreme hardness of this layer. The soil was first crushed with a hammer and in portions of 1.25L weighed. A total of 6L soil was investigated and had a total mass of 6681gr. This sample was sieved through four sieves with the following mesh sizes respectively: 1.00 mm, 0.600mm, 0.250mm, 0.180mm. The resulting fractions had the following (approximate) volume and (exact) mass respectively: X>1.00mm 1.78L and 1648gr; 1.00mm>X<.600mm 1.00L and 1022gr; 0.600mm>X<0.250mm 1.65L and 1854gr; 0.250mm>X<0.180mm 0.875L and 895gr; X<0.180mm 0.900L and 893gr. Total mass is 6312gr; of the missing mass the small pottery sherds that were removed before explains 221g. (Total volume is 6.205??) wm soil P99 after measurement the soil was discarded.
