Other publications | 2010-01-19 | gB | Several similar glass pendants were found at Nuzi (Starr 1939 Nuzi), all of green glass and belonging to "three principal forms," all having in common "the sun in the center, the eight radiating rays, and the dots between each ray. The decoration is invariably in raised relief." (Vol I, p. 451; Pl. 120 NN, OO, XX). They are discussed, and other examples are given, by Dan Barag in (Oppenheim et al. 1970 Glassmaking, p. 140 and Fig. 15. The Nuzi pendants come from the destruction deposit marking the end of Stratum II (second half of the 15th century and beginning of the 14th), and seem to be primarily associated with rituals practiced in the Temple and in the Palace Shrine (Barag, p. 135 f.).
