Seven workmen who were detailed from A20 reported. Alan was absent. One workman was detailed from J6. -sf dL worked at home due to illness. k 32 dy We finished removing the volumetric material, f167, from the northeast corner of this locus. k 44 dy We removed a small step of two accumulations (the natural floor, f60 and the natural accumulation, f180) from the east edge of the locus. We discovered a tannur and large smashed pot along the western edge of f180. Then we photographed, v111, that pottery sherds insitu and removed as many of the sherds as possible without damaging the stones of f49. Then we backfilled the rest of the sherd that in the eastern section of the accumulation under the stone installation, f49, for the excavation next season. k 43 dy We photographed the threshold, f163 (v112), that connects the stone installations, f28 and f49, in k44 from the stone installation, f71 and f91, in k43. k 100 dy We removed the rest of volumetric accumulation, f159, in the eastern part of the upper step of this locus. We also removed the rest of the volumetric accumulation, f174, in the eastern part of the lower step of this locus. k 101 dy We completed excavation this test probe above the western corner of the revetment wall, f3, in k22. Then we backfilled the locus. k 102 dy We completed excavation and backfilled the locus. Dug the natural accumualtions, f182 and f183, in the eastern extention in order to obtain pottery for analysis of the phase when that part of the revetment wall, f3, was built. After the backfill, jW noticed that there was a layer of reddish material (excavated in a previous season and showing on an adjacent east baulk) which would have covered the stones of this locus. ar This red covering was similar to the baqaya glacis as it met the revetment wall in the excavations in J3 to the east. Since all evidence there pointed to wall construction in Phase 1, we can assume the same situation existed in the vicinity of k102 and that this portion of the revetment wall was also built in Phase 1. k 103 dy We completed excavation and backfilled the locus. k 12 dy We completed preparations for exploration for westward extension of the escarpment originally found in J1. From overhead, it is clear that we have located it on the eastern edge of the locus. The search is complicated by the fact that the escarpment is covered by a hard deposit of similar material that has melted from the glacis above, f169. We will continue this project next season. f 180 ds Natural accumulation under the natural compacted floor, f60. It is located between the eastern edge of k44 and the eastern edge of the lower part of the stone installation, f49. It is a compact, granular accumulation that contains a tannur in its northwestern corner and smashed pots, q279, along the northern half of the western edge of this feature. f 181 ds Tannur that sits in the northwestern corner of the compact, granular accumulation, f180. It has a triangular shape that is a part of the base of the original tannur. f 182 ds Natural accumulation near the surface in the northeast quadrant of k102. It was excavated to obtain a pottery sample to assist in determining when the east part of the revetment wall, f3, in k12 was built. f 183 ds Natural accumulation under natural accumulation, f182, and about 15cm below the surface in the northeast quadrant of k102. It was excavated to obtain a pottery sample to assist in determining when the east part of the revetment wall, f3, was built.
