.bk J05 .fl ZA225cJC.j .fd Z225 .ei cJC .rd Z225 .ri mKB q 913-p57 ds Dark gray in color, possibly Metallic ware but in this case it is medium fired. Burnished on the exterior, rough on the interior. It is possible that this sherd is one of the earliest examples of IM ware as the shape is very similar to an M ware small jar, e.g. J5q912-p32 also from f242. q 912-p60 ds Over-fired, medium green on the interior, exterior and in the section. Well smoothed on the both the interior and the exterior. q 912-p54 ds High fired, yellow-buff self slip on the exterior and over the rim, short neck with globular body. Join at point where the body meets the neck making it appear that the neck and rim are formed separately from the body. q 912-p48 ds Medium fired, green-buff slip over a tan core, some calcite, rougher on the exterior than on the interior. q 912-p38 ds Medium fired, short necked globular jar, rim and neck made separately from body, green-buff slip over green-buff core, smoothed on exterior, rough on interior. q 912-p46 ds Medium fired, globular jar, much chaff, green-buff self slip over green-buff core, somewhat smooth on exterior and interior. q 912-p55 ds High fired, short necked jar with slightly pointed everted rim, yellow-buff slip on the exterior and over the rim, red-buff clay. Vessel wall thinner at the neck than the body wall. Neck and rim made separately from the body. Scrape marks visible on the interior. q 913-p19 ds Medium fired. Vessel very heavy because of the large amount of quartz in the clay. It must have been too heavy to move when full and even difficult to move when empty. Thick carbon core, some traces of secondary burning on the interior of one part of the rim, thick red-brown slip over a dark surface on the exterior and the interior. The slip is smoothed on the exterior but not burnished. q 913-p16 ds Cooking vessel with flaring rim. Medium fired, thick red-brown slip on the exterior. Smoothed on the exterior. Secondary burning on the interior and part of the exterior. q 913-p52 ds Medium-low fired, thick green-buff slip over a tan core. Smoothed on the exterior, rough on the interior. q 913-p13 ds Typical ED III cooking vessel but unusual in that it is small. Medium to low fired but no carbon core, thick red-brown slip on the interior and exterior, smoothed but not burnished. q 912-p34 ds Medium-high fired, thick green-buff slip over reddish-tan core, vessel made in two parts and joined at base of neck. Some calcite in section and rehydrated calcite on the exterior. q 912-p58 ds Medium fired, green-buff slip over a green-buff core, smoothed on the exterior and the interior. q 912-p42 ds High fired, thick buff slip over a tan core. Smoothed on the exterior and the interior. q 912-p49 ds Cylindrical jar, typical for ED III jars. Medium fired, green-buff slip over red-brown core, rough on the interior and exterior. q 912-p68 ds Medium fired, firing cloud on part of the exterior body and rim. Buff self-slip, somewhat smoothed on the exterior and interior. q 912-p56 ds Cylindrical vessel or stand. Medium-low fired. Green-buff self-slip on the interior and exterior with the core the same color. Strong wheel marks on the interior. Scrape marks on the exterior. Constructed in two parts, joined below the rim. q 913-p6 ds Flaring neck jar, high fired. Green-buff slip on the exterior and interior, smoothed on the exterior and interior. Much calcite on the exterior and interior surfaces. q 912-p27 ds Medium fired, thick green-buff slip over a red-brown core. Some calcite temper. Rough on the interior and exterior. q 912-p32 ds Metallic ware, high fired. Gray self-slip over a gray core. Strong wheel marks on the interior, smoothed on the exterior. q 913-p7 ds Globular jar, medium-low fired, green-buff self slip, very smooth on the exterior, smoothed but less so on the interior. q 912-p39 ds Typical ED III cooking vessel shape. Medium fired, thick carbon core. Vessel is heavy because of the large amount of quartz temper, making the vessel difficult to move. No traces of secondary burning on the interior or exterior. Thick red-brown slip, not burnished on the exterior and interior. Rough on the exterior and interior. q 913-p33 ds Medium fired, green-buff slip over a dark tan core, smoothed on the exterior but less so on the interior. q 913-p23 ds Cylindrical body, medium fired, buff self-slip and smoothed on both the interior and the exterior. q 912-p30 ds Globular body, medium-high fired, thick green-buff slip over light tan core. Smoother on the interior than on the exterior. q 912-p69 ds Globular body, medium fired, buff-green self-slip over a light red-brown core and smoothed on both the interior and the exterior. q 913-p29 ds Medium fired, thick green-buff slip over a light ten-buff core, much chaff and rough on the exterior and interior. Thick walled making the jar difficult to move. q 912-p52 ds High fired, buff self-slip on interior and exterior, smoothed on interior and exterior. q 912-p63 ds Medium-high fired, thick green-buff slip on red-brown core on exterior and over the rim, rough on the interior and exterior. Because it is a large storage jar it has more chaff temper than the usual RC ware. q 912-p53 ds Overfired which is unusual for such a large shape. Green-buff slip on the exterior and over the rim. Smoothed on the exterior with rough interior. More exaggerated flaring neck than most vessels of this type. q 912-p27 ds Medium-high fired with carbon core. Some calcite on the interior and exterior surfaces. Red-brown self-slip on interior and exterior. Rough on interior and exterior surfaces. q 912-p57 ds Very shallow interior grooved rim. High fired, rough on interior and exterior, buff slip on exterior and over the rim. q 912-p22 ds On the interior below the interior grooved rim are marks of use just before the vessel becomes restricted. The use marks were probably from stirring although it is possible that they are from a lid. q 912-p29 ds Thin and shallow interior groove on the rim, high fired, green-buff self-slip on the exterior and over the rim, somewhat smoothed on the interior and exterior. q 911-p62 ds Medium-low fired, wide carbon core, thick gray slip on interior and exterior, space burnished on the interior and exterior. q 912-p1 ds Typical ED III bowl with squared rim. Medium fired, green-buff slip on interior and exterior, smoother on the interior than on the exterior. q 912-p25 ds Unusual bowl shape in P ware. No signs of secondary burning on exterior or interior. Medium fired, wide carbon core. Thick brown slip on the interior and exterior; burnished on the exterior. q 911-p68 ds Same shape bowl as J5q911-p66 but this example is thicker walled and has more calcite temper. High fired, green-buff slip on exterior and interior over red-brown core. q 912-p10 ds Typical ED III square rim bowl but this example is poorly fired with a wide carbon core. Tan slip on the interior and exterior. Some traces of scraping with a tool on the exterior. q 912-p18 ds Common ED III bowl type; little calcite and more chaff than other CH examples of this bowl type. This bowl type is made in RC and CH wares but the CH examples have two sub-types: one with thinner walls and more carefully formed vessels and a second sub-type with thicker walls and not as carefully formed bodies. High fired, thick yellow-buff slip on the interior and exterior. q 912-p16 ds Medium fired, green-buff slip on interior and exterior, light core, smoother interior than exterior. Use wear evidence on top of rim, possibly from a lid. q 911-p59 ds Unusual bowl shape with an unusual oval knob handle for P ware. Medium to low fired, gray-brown slip on the interior and exterior, smoothed on the exterior, coarse on the interior. q 912-p20 ds Typical ED III bowl with squared rim. Medium fired, thin buff slip on the interior and exterior, somewhat smoothed on the interior and exterior. Typical "sandwich" section of RC ware. q 911-p66 ds Medium-high fired, higher fired than most CH vessels. Mica and calcite showing on the surface. Yellow buff slip on the exterior only. Rim slightly deformed where the knob was applied to the exterior. Thumb shaped indentation on the interior where the potter's thumb pressed the handle in place. Two small crescent shaped depressions made with a reed or stick indicating the tool used for scraping the surface. q 912-p24 ds Medium fired, thick buff slip on the interior and exterior, smoother on the interior than the exterior. Possible use-ware on the exterior of the rim. q 912-p69 ds Medium fired, tempered with very fine chaff, many chaff holes on both the exterior and the interior surfaces, smooth on the interior, rough on the exterior. q 912-p14 ds Typical ED III shape of deep bowls with a squared rim. Buff slip on the exterior and top of rim, fine parallel wipe marks on the top of the rim where it was smoothed when the slip was applied. Interior is light red-brown just below the rim where there was no slip but buff-brown below with some green-gray patches from an uneven firing. q 911-p57 ds Deeper bowl than most examples of this type of bowl with a squared rim. High fired, parallel striations on top of the rim indicating the use of a brush, cloth or other tool used to apply the thick slip. Smoother on the exterior than the interior. q 912-p17 ds Medium fired. Heavier clay than usual CH ware, light green-buff slip over a light red-brown clay with an unusual "sandwich" section typical of RC ware but not CH ware. This sherd was categorized as CH ware because there is much more chaff temper than RC ware and almost no calcite. q 910-p35 ds High fired, buff slip on the exterior, red-brown on the interior, rough on the interior and exterior. q 910-p11 ds High fired, thick light yellow-buff slip on the interior and exterior, somewhat smoothed on the interior and exterior. q 910-p8 ds High fired, gray-green slip on interior and exterior, somewhat rough on the interior and exterior, sherd body broken vertically. q 910-p34 ds High fired, lighter green near the rim on the exterior and interior, darker green-buff below; thpical colors for S ware cups. q 910-p30 ds Medium to low fired, bright yellow-green slip on interior and exterior, rough on interior and exterior. q 910-p33 ds High fired, lighter buff near the rim on the exterior, tan below, rough on the interior and exterior. q 910-p38 ds It is unusual to have a small thin vessel in WS ware. High fired, green-buff slip on the interior and exterior, somewhat smooth on the exterior and quite smooth on the interior. q 910-p10 ds High fired, light yellow-buff slip on the interior and exterior, rough on interior and exterior. q 910-p32 ds High fired, green-buff self slip on the interior and exterior, very smooth on interior and exterior. The ware is very similar to the "super-fine" S ware cups from Temple BA. q 910-p27 ds High fired, heavy wheel marks on the interior and exterior, tan self slip, somewhat rough on the interior and exterior. q 910-p9 ds Medium-high fired, dark buff clip and smoothed on the interior and exterior. q 910-p15 ds High fired, small folded-over rim, secondarily fired on the entire interior, somewhat smooth on the interior and exterior, green-buff self slip on the interior and over the rim. q 910-p20 ds Unusual that such a small bowl is made in WS ware. Medium fired, thin self-slip, pinkish-tan core, somewhat smoothed on interior and exterior. q 910-p14 ds Medium fired, greenish-yellow self slip on the interior and exterior, smooth on the interior and rough on the exterior. Misshaped rim resulting from the forming process. q 910-p2 ds Low fired, yellow buff on interior and exterior, smoothed on interior and exterior. q 910-p12 ds High fired, thin greenish-buff slip on interior and exterior, light tan core, somewhat smoothed on interior and exterior. q 910-p57 ds Kiln waster. Overfired resulting in collapse of this S ware bowl. q 910-p24 ds Low fired, rough on interior and exterior. Used as a lamp as there are heavy burning traces on the top, interior, and exterior of the rim. q 911-p56 ds Medium fired, thick green-buff self slip on the interior and exterior, smoothed on the exterior. Shape impossible to determine but it might be a stand. Formed by coiling with heavy coil marks still visible on the interior. On the interior some signs of scraping to smooth the surface. Drawing could also be oriented in the opposite direction. Probably from the same object as J5q911-p55 but no edges join. q 910-p47 ds Spout of a small pot of same shape as the typical ED III small spouted "tea pots" Overfired resulting in a rough exterior. q 911-p55 ds Shape impossible to orient as there are no preserved edges; it is possible that the drawing is reversed. Formed by coiling with a scraped interior (see also J5q911-p56 which is probably part of the same object but no edges join.) Thick green buff slip on the interior and exterior, somewhat smoothed on the exterior. q 910-p60 ds Possibly a stand; only one complete edge. Medium-high fired, green-buff self-slip on the interior and exterior, smoothed on the exterior. q 484.1 ds From the photograph it appears that there are two rollings preserved; the lower rolling is unclear. The upper rolling shows a standing figure with arms raised holding two horned rampant animals. The animal to the left of the standing figure appears to be reversed. The style is linear with the only modeled volumes preserved being the body of the human and the head of the reversed animal. The eye of the animal on the right of the hero is made with a circle with a dot in the center. A hero holding two animals is an ED III theme also shown in the K1 seal impressions (Mozan 1 M1 169, M1 177). P1 The seal impression was cleaned and photographed by the conservator in 2010 and set aside to be drawn, photographed and described in 2011. There were unfortunately no excavations or study seasons possible after 2010. i 32 sh j i 52 sh c ZcaS1 c w2 4 wm RC1 i 55.1 sh c ZcaS1 c w1 7.7 wm RC1 i 55.2 sh c ZcaS1 c w1 6.8 wm S i 55.3 sh c ZcaS1 o ZcaS3 1 wm RC1 q 25.3 sh b wm CH q 38.5 ZcaS4 sp q 55.2 nt May be footed base but unclear q 83.2 ZcaS4 sq nt Unclear applique decoration below rim q 133.1 ZcaD1 1 ZcaD2 M6+M22 q 135.1 wm CH sh l ZcaS3 802 ZcaS4 xrg w1 32 ZcaD1 1 ZcaD2 M18 q 135.2 wm CH q 174.5 wm CH sh b ZcaS1 m ZcaS4 xf ZcaD2 I11 q 232.5 wm CH ZcaD1 1 ZcaD2 M6 q 389.1 wm CH sh b ZcaS1 s ZcaS3 101 ZcaS4 gt ZcaD1 4 ZcaD2 S1 w1 27 nt Possibly a potter's mark.
