The area shows bright red bricks, gray ash, black ash, and light gray bricky material mixed together. The colors are quite vivid and sharp when scraped with the trowel but lose their brightness when brushed. This burnt area appears localized only within k202 crossing into k203 and we plan to leave this feature in the case that this is a destruction layer and covers the entire area above the stones. The stone pavement a12 found in k109 show several stones with black stains on them (the stones to the far west) and looks like bitumen. It is interesting to note that the burnt area f317 lies next to these stones and may be the reason why they are darkened. We will see if this burnt layer continues to the stone pavement.
