The way of life on an archaeological expedition is unique in that individuals find themselves together for an extended period of time in a setting where there is an intense sharing of work and free time, of professional and personal goals, of communal goals and personal preferences. All of this is essentially without escape, and for no remuneration. What emerges, in the best of circumstances, is a strong sense of community. |
