Description (summary) | 2008-08-16 | lC | Fill of a possible pit, doorway or animal hole in the western edge of the brickmelt f52 in k12. The fill is very soft, gray in color, very similar to the ashy layer f24 that could be the same. Inside this soft ashy soil there are also some more compact pieces, probably part of broken mud bricks. We excavated just few centimeters inside the hole and not a big amount of pottery came out. The sherds inside the fill lie both vertical and horizontal. [Input: S816LC.j] |

Daily notes about recovery of elements | 2008-08-10 | lR | Several holes are present on the western side of f52, interpreted as animal holes although it's strange to have so many on the surface and may be linked to a specific function associated with all the ash and bricky mass. The largest hole, fill f104 has one corner with brick faces suggestive of a possible door but the other side is rounded, appearing more like an animal hole than a doorway. The fill was partially excavated to see if more brick faces surfaced, these faces were found only in the southern end. [Input: S810LR2.j] |
Strategy (projected or implemented) | 2008-08-10 | lR | Continue to remove f52 in 10 cm increments, leaving the east section in place to aid in understanding the stratigraphy. We will begin by removing f82 first then approach towards f52 since f82 is softer and easier to remove. [Input: S810LR2.j] |
