Overview

To this Phase dating to Late Chalcolithic 3 seem to belong the second large structure found in J1, after the EDIII Revetment Wall and the other installation forming the EDIII terrace complex. This large stone structure is dated to this period on the base of the pottery coming from a small sounding at its base, and for comparisons to evidences found in other units, like J5, J3 and J2.

The large stone structure

The Late Chalcolithic structure is constituted of two bonded walls, slightly inclined an built with very large sized stones. Its dimensions are not clear yet, but they seem to define the space to the South, separating it to the North and West. Because of its position right at the base (one of the walls has the same direction) of the subsequent EDIII Revetment Wall, and because of the presence of LC material much hgher in elevation to the North (J3), we assume it could have the same function as the Revetment wall. It could be part of the structure of a Late Chalcolithic Terrace. Other elements in Units J2 and J5 seem pointing to this direction. But since we reached these early strata just in small areas we need to have a larger exposure for a fuller understanding.

Typology

Due to the small dimensions of the excavated area few objects were recovered. Interesting a group of objects found toghether, two beautiful obsidian blade (q1304.4 and q1304.5), a wheel (q1304.3) and a flint scraper (q1304.6). Not very indicative from a typological point of view.
